How can TII so blatantly lie? Tolls increased in 2022. It even says so on their own website and they claim they haven’t increased in 10 years.

  1. The absolutely need to do it on a pro-rata basis.

The fact that someone can join northbound at the N11 merge and travel all the way to the N4 exit without paying a cent, whereas someone pays full whack between the N3/N4 is pure bollox.

  2. >Confirming the end of the deferral period, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) pointed out that there has been **no increase in tolls for cars and small passenger vehicles using the M50 for ten years**.

What does their website say? Was the M50 excluded from the last round of increases? Like, if that’s the issue then increase the M50 toll in line with the rest, but they did all increase by 10c last year, didn’t they?

  3. Postponed to give the illusion that we have any say in the matter?

How about they take back this state asset and stop charging us double or triple for a road we’ve already paid for. The M50 company are essentially holding our own infrastructure ransom under the guise of regulatory capture corruption being somehow acceptable.

  4. As someone who uses the M50 daily they should reduce the toll, but have a toll at every entrance to the M50, this would stop it being used as a rat run and probably lessen the congestion on it.

  5. Theres shouldnt be any tolls after the road is paid off its not going back into the roads at all, absolute scheme and a half

  6. 23% Vat on the car, VRT & NOX if you import from UK/North, Road tax between 200-2350 depending on the car and 57% tax on fuel at the pump.

Now the tolls are going up.

They’ll be charging a fresh air tax every time you wind down the windows next.

  7. Tolls are generally a good idea, as they charge drivers per actual use. Hence why most of the continent uses them. Just because a road is ‘paid off’, doesn’t mean the toll should stop. I guess though the key issue is that there is always an alternative to a tolled road, so you don’t want the cost so high as to encourage people to use the alternatives.

  8. Can someone genuinely explain what the rationale is behind continuing to have tolls on the M50? Like what song are we being sold to keep paying it?

Also seems to be the only service in the country that’s allowed to have incredibly predatory fines for non-payment that courts seem to actually enforce. Like we won’t force Enoch to pay his fines but someone who didn’t pay their toll a few times and racks up thousands in fines is forced to pay it.

  9. The M1 toll only increased there recently. It’s in an absolutely ridiculous spot too. Drogheda does be so congested as it is and the only decent way to get across town is about to go up to €2.10 each way 🙄

  10. I could get to my gym in about 15 minutes but I take the long route of 30 mins because if I took the motorway, it’d add 40 quid on to my monthly trip to the gym. 80 if I took the motorway back too.

It’s so frustrating if you’re a regular user.

  11. Good. Drivers should pay the fair value of the construction and maintenance (and all other costs) of the toll roads.

  12. And rightly so. They provide a great service, letting us use their roads that they bought with their own money. We should pay twice as much and be happy to pay it. In fact, I think they’re doing such a great job, whoever owns the toll services should run the country. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Bertie for President.

  13. I love how the Irish government says *we won’t be increasing prices again yet* as if its some sort of reward

  14. Thanks for the time. Yeah if I highlight a word the only options I get are basically (cut, copy, undo, share) doesn’t give an option for hyperlink. I’ll try download the relay app. I assume it works on all apps.
