Green MP Caroline Lucas to stand down at General Election

  1. Funny how they tell the environmental protestors that the only way to change things is to join Government and now the most environmentally conscious MP is leaving it to actually try and make a difference.

  2. That’s a really odd argument.

I’d have thought being the sole Green MP would give you the best possible platform to address those issues and get heard.

But end of the day it’s a job and there are others.

  3. GPEW’s existential problem – as shown by how it dogmatically holds onto years-old policies and finds it so difficult to evolve them (e.g. nuclear power & HS2) – is that they don’t know if they are a political party or a pressure group.

With Lucas standing down, it looks like they’ve decided on being the latter.

  4. Whatever you think of the Greens, it can’t be argued she wasn’t a good MP for her constituency. She increased her vote share every election and put her money where her mouth was after being arrested for protesting.

And now she’s leaving because she’s realised the system is broken and you can’t get anything meaningful done.

    We need PR now.

  5. What a massive shame.

The Greens had a great time in the recent local elections.

The upcoming GE could be an interesting one for them.

  6. Hopefully they’ll get someone in who has more practical ideas on how to help the environment rather than opposing nuclear power, for example. Or other crazy policy ideas like abolishing prison but only for women.
