Rich countries with high greenhouse gas emissions could pay $170tn in climate reparations | Climate crisis

  1. Two questions.

If we paid trillions to countries with low carbon outputs wouldn’t they then produce more carbon themselves?

And wouldn’t we be better off spending it on becoming carbon neutral ourselves first?

  2. Emerging economies won’t pay and cannot pay in many cases. We might be bad for carbon emissions but a reasonable government would help pay repatriations and push for a greener future. It will be countries like Brazil, Nigeria and South Africa that won’t pay but will want to continue growing their economies and will look at how we did it to justify increasing their carbon emissions. Good luck getting them to pay.

  3. Ok, is every other country going to give up the trappings of industrialisation then? No machinery, no cars, vans, lorries, rip up those railways, no electronics, fewer medicines etc etc etc because it seems to me that the rest if the world is happy to continue consuming the fruits of industrialisation but also wants the countries that made it all happen amd make these things pay compensation. GTFO of here.
