What are your views on Germany?

  1. Best Beer, autobahn, Nurburgring, Beckenbauer, country of supermarkets empire, and 99 luft ballons. Germans wont speak english if their life depended on it, otherwise cool people.

  3. I’m fan of their football and I like their discipline, but my close friend live there for 4-5 years and told me some bad stuff about society and slow bureaucracy, now he returned to Bulgaria and is very happy and feel more safe.

  4. I used to have much better views on Germany before but in the past few years their idiotic energy policy has been externalized as a problem for the whole EU. They are essentially supporting coal and gas, and the last year demonstrated that abundantly.

Even with that, I am still more sympathetic towards Germany than to some other European countries. Far right ideology is still a taboo, for historical reasons, and that is a good thing, because in other European countries there is a wave of whitewashing of fascism.

Culturally, I like their directness, the beer garden culture of Southern Germany. I find it refreshing when a man (or a woman) in a business outfit would be drinking a beer on the bus. In general I like Central European culture, not as much as Southern Europe, but definitely more than Western or Northern.

Another notable thing is their astounding bureaucracy, especially the way it is centered around paper. Having to send / wait for paper mail, without alternatives, in the 21st century is so quirky.

  5. My family has 25 years of experience working with germans and I also have the luck to see how it is. Overall perfect, it is the second country in my heart and love the people also. I had mostly interaction with people from small villages, but big town guys are nice too.

  6. I worked with highly educated Germans a lot. They were great. Fantastic work ethics, friendly, respectful, and – contrary to popular opinion – funny. Food was quite good, especially in the company HQ.

But they tend to overspecify and overengineer. On the other hand – when it works it works. Not very flexible, but it lasts.

  7. The motherland of the vw golf how could anyone hate germany.

Jokes aside, my views are on the good aide, but there is few minuses.
First: The country became very dependant from Russia in the last few years, It’s just stupid to base your half energy supply on natural gas from Russia or any other non EU country.

Second: It’s coal burning policy, so they have strict rules about car’s emissions, but at the same time Germany burns tons of coal each year which is really stupid compared to France with their nuclear power plants or green energy based countries which are Germany’s neighbors, like Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland with their hydropower plants and other.

  8. I have a lot of differing views on Germany. I have been there many times and I have lived there for several months.

    – Its clean and orderly. Especially outside of big cities, its great. The infrastructure is amazing, there are great parks, camping sites, tourist attractions, which are well supported and kept.
    – Great public transport options. The railways are always great, clean, on time and overall enjoyable to use. (Altho admitedly, I once traveled from Prague to Lepzig and the czech part was better than the german)
    – Wherever I have gone to eat, the service has always been good. The servers are always friendly and even when they dont speak english, they are patient enough to try and get my order in my below average german.
    – German kids are retarded. I dont think I have seen stupider people than german 15-20 year olds. I guess living privileged lives with no real issues does that to them. Or maybe they are spoiled. But I’d say about 50% of german kids I saw are absolute fucking dipshits.
    – Another issue are immigrants. I will sounds racist, but immigrants are e menace. They always roam in gangs, scream at subway stations, I have seen one try and push an older person in front of the coming train. Many dont seem to even attempt to integrate, they live in closed societies and just collect money from the government. Many also drive like absolute morons, whenever you see a german car in any contry to the east of Austria, you know its 99% chance to be a turk who will very likely drive like an ass.
    – German houses are bland as fuck. Everything is gray or white. Austria for example is way more colorful.
    – Germans, especially in the southern regions, are very unwelcoming to everyone. I have had issues, when I explain in german, that I speak english or ask them to try and speak german just a bit slower so I can understand them, many flat out refuse. Thankfully at least people in the service industry were always understanding, no matter where I have been.

And then I worked for a german company for about 2 years.

    – In corporate environment many germans are awfully arrogant.
    – They often talk about coming to Bulgaria they often referred to it as “going under/lower” which often left the implication that we are “under” or “lower” people. This was in german, but the sentiment was often shared with people who had far better german knowledge than me.

  10. I have mixed feelings. I used to love Germany and I thought that I would live there my entire life. Then Merkel happened- suddenly everything changed- the prices of goods and services skyrocketed, she also increased the VAT. The state switched the focus from providing equal care and rights to all citizens and focused on the very poor and on the migrants instead.
**Currently one married couple with 2 children working in Germany for median salary and paying taxes receives netto, the same amount of money if they don’t work and sit on HARTZ 4.** The welfare migration would break Germany in the coming years.

Germany is great country and it used to have great people living there, but their elite genocides the germans and their traditions and the german way of living. People like Prof.Klaus F. Zimmermann rang the bell 20 years ago, but none listened. The sad story is that the german elite prefers migrants over germans, because migrants are easier to employ and have little to no expectations.

90% of my international friends that were well educated and with good careers left Germany. I left Germany in 2013 and I don’t plan to go back.

  11. Been living there for a few years, initially didn’t like it but now it’s different, I’m getting a normal life slowly going, hoping to score with a hot redhead German girl, wish me luck

  12. Extremely high taxes, somewhat xenophobic (especially in terms of finding rent and labor), still a better place to live than ~80% of countries on the planet. Certainly higher quality of life than Bulgaria.

  13. Mostly positive in terms of infrastructure, business etc, but mostly negative when it comes to foreign policy. For example, Merkel supports Borisov and Germany itself buys plenty of energy from Russia. Other than that, it is one of the countries I have yet to visit.

  14. I moved to the Netherlands recently and I visited Germany a few times since, also drove through the entire country on my way here. I find it mostly well organized and advanced, and some places are very interesting with a lot to see. However the amount of immigrants who are obviously not integrated, and especially gypsy gangs I see everywhere are kind of worrying. Also some places are pretty under-developed and reminded me more of Eastern Europe than anything, which I haven’t experienced in the Netherlands. The food is really good and affordable. Most things are pretty affordable, often cheaper than Bulgaria. Overall I think it’s a very interesting place with plenty of opportunities, but a lot of ugliness and neglected issues as well.

  15. Това някакъв бот за фармене на карма ли е. Какви са тези скучни теми и защо скачаме толкова на тях.

  16. Neat social policies, law enforcement (and respect for laws), democratic and economically-solid country with rich history, full of political, scientific and musical/artistical minds and plethora of inventions in all these fields. Food isn’t as bad, nice beer, beautiful girls.

I am glad they are one of our largest (if not actually the largest) trading partners, there is a lot we should learn from them. Historically, we’ve been traditional allies on occasions (we were the Prussia of the Balkans once) and they assisted us military-wise, also they promised and aided us in our reclamation of lands with predominantly ethnic Bulgarian population.

I hope they deal with the problems they face nowadays, and the danger these things represent to Germany, Germans and their society and life.

  17. As someone with a German father and Bulgarian mother, I can write quite a lot about this. I do it in English, so that non-Bulgarian speakers can also read along.

Tldr: I hate this country more every day.

Long story: growing up in East Germany, I never really felt comfortable here. Although German is my mother tongue (and my Bulgarian quite stable), I’m probably more Bulgarian than German (sorry Dad), both in mentality and culture.

This German fussy decadent and entitled way of life and the tendency to perfectionism I find ultra annoying. I have hardly any German friends because I mostly can’t cope with the way Germans socialize.

I think this country has been degrading massively for decades, both economically and socially. That’s because this country and its people are doing way too well and especially the youth is not used to “real problems” anymore. For me, Germany is a decadent state in free fall.

The current energy policy and foreign policy (Germany interferes in too many things that are none of their business) are a good example.

Also Life here has now become almost unaffordable.

And you can’t get rid of the feeling that you’re being screwed over here day after day. Everyone is pulling money out of your pocket without justification. Anyone who has ever dealt with setting up a company here knows what I mean.

The social system is extremely bloated and overpriced, because a huge water head of people is financed, who actually do not need it. There are 5 million welfare recipients in Germany. Don’t get me wrong, anyone can have a hard time in life, so that they are dependent on governmental aid.

But it can not be good that in Germany 800,000 long-term unemployed exist, for which I have to cede 20-30% of my hard-earned salary. It is an open secret in Germany that we have more HartzIV recipients than there should be. Who could work, but rest on the backs of the people.

I find that other countries have designed their social welfare systems much smarter in this regard.

Germany has the highest tax burden in the world, but at the same time definitely not the best bureaucracy or the best healthcare system, which would put it into perspective. Here, you now wait up to 6 months for a specialist appointment, even in urgent cases, because there are no more doctors.

Well-trained specialists are fleeing Germany and going to countries where they earn better and live better.

Not to mention the huge number of civil servants in the administration, who actually only administer themselves, pay no social security contributions, receive high pensions and have to be co-financed. The demographic situation contributes its remaining to the situation.

German industry is on the decline. Too ideological, too expensive, not competitive. Numerous studies also attest this to the German state.

Germans are too obsessive. I love the flexible way in which regulations are dealt with in the Balkans/Bulgaria. But I’m certainly a bit primitive in that respect.

My girlfriend is from another Balkan country and for her the German dream has also been shattered. We are both only here as long as we have to and want to leave as soon as possible. Here you will neither be happy nor rich. If you are really good at something, you can earn money just as well in the Balkans, in my opinion, and you don’t have to cede up to 70% (not a fantasy figure!) to the state.

The study and “Ausbildung” (In-company practical training in a profession) system is still very good in Germany and in particular “Ausbildungen” are still highly recognized worldwide, but that’s it.

I can only advise everyone who loves his (bulgarian) homeland and comes to Germany only because of the money: Don’t do it. Do your studies/Ausbildung here and return to the Balkans and help to build up society there. This will make you and your compatriots happier.

Of course, I know the weaknesses of Bulgaria and its people, but these are clearly the lesser evil for me. During the 2 years I lived there, I had almost only good experiences with the Bulgarian health care system. At least I never had to wait 6 months for an appointment with a specialist and I always found the fees for treatments very fair and justified.

I love Bulgaria, its culture and its friendly people and I am looking forward to returning soon.

Ps: im ofc not speaking for “Deutschrap” (german rap). Even though it’s mostly produced by artists with migrational background. 😁

Im not sure how many people will relate, but I have the feeling that bulgarian reddit is far more open to this critism than german reddit.

  18. I hate. I abhor it. Almost everything about Germany disgusts me to no extent.

I hate the direction this country is going to. I hate how blind so many of the Germans are about it. I have no idea how the people who engineered thermobaric rockets are at this level now. I have no idea what happened to the country of thinkers and poets.

I despise the public transport, the prices, the daily delays, the daily strikes and how dirty it is.

I hate the work culture. I hate the refugees in Germany. I hate the Germans too.

I lived in Germany for long enough and every day I tried to see the good in this pathethic excuse of a country but I only saw worse.

I like the language. It is a melodic language. A beautiful language.

I like the not so-popular places in the cities at dusk. I find them weirdly romantic. Especially if I’m the only one walking there.

I like Rammstein and I feel this piece belongs to my comment:

Mein Herz in Flammen, will dich lieben und verdammen.

  19. Great country with a huge problem that came in 2015 with the immigrant crisis.

A large portion of the newcomers live off welfare, causing the immigrants that pay for that to want to leave. I am one such example. I could not bear seeing all the people in front of the Job center that are waiting for handouts that come from a big chunk of my salary. Meanwhile fellow eastern Europeans that work their asses off on sort of minimum wage and struggle with rent are receiving only endless questions from the authorities and not a single cent.

I left in 2022 and I am better here now. I earn 3 times the average wage where I live, I work from home and generally my life is less stressful. Converted to Euro I would still earn way more in Germany but expenses there are also a lot more, so life would be worse. That is of course kind of subjective. Depends on what you value.
