The nutriscore isn’t a global score on “this is healthy, this is bad”, but it’s a score based on similar products within its category in the food triangle. So in this case it’s fish, which isn’t really a bad thing, but compared to other fish it isn’t the healthiest fish to eat.
Fyi, nutriscore only compares to other products in the same category. So nutriscore D on this salmon doesn’t mean it’s more unhealthy then nutriscore C ice cream for example
Shnappie?
Aangezien het hier ongetwijfeld over kweekzalm zal gaan moet je niet te veel omega-3 verwachten. Kleurstoffen en antibiotica….
Because most likely it comes from a fish farm, where the fish are held in very small enclosements, and fed grain for commercial reasons. They also end up eating eachother’s excrement a lot of the times.
The conditions are horrible, and grain of course isn’t the natural diet of a salmon, so they tend to get sick a lot. This is why they also stuff them with antibiotics.
Also, because they’re eating grain, and not their natural diet, they tend to not have that pink/orange color that they’re so known for. This is why they also stuff them with food coloring.
Now contrast this with a pacific, wild caught salmon.
Those are two different things entirely.

This is why it’s so tricky to make statements like “Salmon is healthy”.

A pacific wild caught salmon is one of the healthiest things you can eat. Healthy omega 3’s, healthy fats. Highly advised for pregnant woman for example for the development of the infants brain. Expect to pay full price for this though.

What you’ve got there is a health hazard.
Let us see ingredients list
High salt content probably. All smoked products will have a low score
Its a scam anyways, who cares?
Most store bought smoked salmon is not really smoked but rather prepared in salt baths and smoke infused 😳
Probably because smoked salmon is going to contain a lot of salt
Smoked salmon is unhealthy as fuck. Especially when it’s from a supermarket big chain. All smoked products are processed to hell, and therefore unhealthy.
Fresh salmon from a fish shop is healthy. Just go to your local fresh fish shop twice a month and get some good quality fresh salmon and cook it on a pan with olive oil. That’s like a budget of 20€ per month.
Nutriscore A is reserved for friet, boulet and mayonnaise ofcourse
Nutrition score aside, this is the best “store brand” smoked salmon. Much better than AH, Delhaize and Colruyt own brands. Great texture, decent saltiness, not too flaky, good thickness of the slices that are also easy to pull apart. I always buy it when I’m at ALDI, sometimes I would go in just to buy it.
Smoking is bad mkaaay
Salt, nitrites, food additive, addition of water to syringes, salmon waste from brands. In reality it is the food that we serve to humans before dogs and animals.
As an addition to what others said (and surprised nobody else said it before): NUTRISCORE IS TRUSTLESS, pretty much a SCAM. And maybe not in Belgium, but in other countries it has been very polemic. Born with nice intentions, but in practice its system is not very good designed and the biggest food companies, which actively supported it aware of how to use its weak points in their favour, do all possible to make unhealthy products seem healthier without lying, while more often than not healthier products seem unhealthy. This was partially corrected in some cases, by giving some specific healthy products a good score by themselves instead of comparing them, but still in practice it’s among the worst systems you could ever look at to decide if something is healthy or not. Specially when you see a processed or ultraprocessed product with a high nutriscore, you should be very suspicious and run away from it, since paradoxically it would be almost for sure among the most unhealthy ones if good analyzed. Indeed for common people it would be easier to get the fair nutritional info of the products by looking to that section of the packages, making some maths and compraring, than looking to the purposefully misleading nutriscore. I can’t remember now well the specific nutriscore flaws I’m referring to, but I advice you to do a research: you could find in google some papers about it and opinions of nutritionists.
I believe smoked is high in salt
Nutriscore is nonsense, but if you want to know, it’s because of the added salt in this case.

It’s the salmons penis
Tbh, nutriscore is problematic, they should teach proper food balancing in schools instead of garbage like religion. But honestly, if you’re <50 and don’t have health issues you can pretty much get by on: Put variation in your food, aim for a plate that’s 2/4 veggies & 1/4 pasta/rice/potato/… & 1/4 meat/fish, avoid that bag of crisps in the evening, try to match calorie intake vs. expenditure, and go for a walk in the evening.
Maak gewoon dat je tegen 2050 score A haalt.
Well, if you bothered to post the actual nutrition information instead of the “quick guideline sticker” we could probably explain exactly.
But in general, smoked meats are INCREDIBLY high in sodium, often providing 100%+ of your suggested daily intake, which is bad for people with hypertension, heart issues, or other medical conditions, and can cause hypertension and water retention issues.
Because it smoked
aldi moment
Smoked = over salted
It’s full of fat and salt. It’s not gonna be healthy just cause it’s a fish.
It’s an absolutely worthless metric, ignore it
It means the salmon barely passed its test
Smoked salmon contains way too much salt to be considered healthy. Salmon is quite healthy, smoked salmon not.
Nutri score does not like fat. That’s all.
Even though the salmon is full of healthy fats, nutri score does not differentiate.
At some point in the past, food ‘experts’ told us fat was bad because it has a high calories count.
So the ‘experts’ said you had to cut fat to avoid gaining weight and cardiovascular diseases.
(That’s why ‘light’ products often have fat replaced by sugar, as sugar has a theorethical lower calorie count)
Ever since ‘the experts’ said this and humans started following this advice, people got more overweight than ever before and cardiovascular diseases are the number 1 health risk in many countries.
Nutri score is based on the same ‘expert’ advice.
So you get smoked salmon nutri score D. (Fat)
And Dorito’s get nutri score B. (Corn based carbs)
Because the ‘experts’ said so.
Often, we are taught to nót trust our gut feeling and instinct. Well, I leave it up to you:
Dorito’s (B) or salmon (D)?
Apparently the fat in farmed salmon isn’t really that good for you compared to the fats in wild salmon. I wonder if that’s taken into consideration? If they have wild smoked salmon, I’d check the rating on that just out of interest
Rioolering zalm.
most people here: WRONG. Nutri-score is NOT catagorized per product type. There’s only a few catagories:
– whole foods
– cheeses
– fats/butter/oil
– liquids/drinks
Go look up a calculation tool, those are the ONLY categories.
Edit right after: this does not mean nutri score is useful for anything else than comparing one brand of e.g. cookies to another. It’s quite useless and ‘dangerously’ confusing in general imo.
Nitriscore and food triangle are both retarded and Don tell you anything about what’s healthy.

salmon from farms? no, thanks.
