Accusations are easily made, leading to social condemnation, and the resulting damage is often enduring, regardless of a not guilty verdict in court.
I believe this issue will increase significantly. As an long list of tools continues to surface, disseminating false information and rumors has become effortless. The existence of AI-generated images that are deceptive yet convincing is already prevalent, and the quality will only improve over time.
The reason vigilantes do NOT work is: innocent until proven guilty 🤦♂️ such a simple idea and activists forget it in their “righteous” fervour

The issue is. In my local city, old man goes to a child because they lost, can’t find mum, big shopping centre, and child trying to run out the doors apparently. Mum finds child next to the man who’s took him to a help desk. she then cries pedo, Gets him published as a pedophile in paper. Then gets hunted down by police. Turns out to be false.
But does the paper then publish an article saying it was false, NO. Does the mother get done for neglect? No! The guy has to live with it. And all he was doing was trying to help. And stop the child running into the road. Or out the shopping centre doors.
The hunters only do for likes and views.
They trap innocent people and obviously make it impossible to life.

I’m picturing a Ronnie Pickering type, looking for any excuse to square up to someone and show how hard they are. An old disabled man being polite to a teenage girl is the perfect target for these sorts of cretins.
The innocuous interaction that lead to this man being wrongly labelled a paedophile is actually quite scary.
My late Granddad had Alzheimer’s and he was one of those type of people who all his life loved talking to and interreacting with babies, children and young people. When he became ill with the Alzheimer’s he obviously still had that part of him intact but less inhibitions so would chat to any kid or coo over babies in the street/shops/out and about whenever he saw them .
My grandma was terrified that someone was going to think he was a nonce due to the weird looks he often got so stated to pull him away or steer him in a different direction if she thought he was going to do it. She remarked that if it was her doing these things no one would bat an eye lid and just think she was a ‘lovely old dear’ but as grandad was a man peoples reactions were completely different. I felt sad for him as interacting with children like this would bring a smile to his face despite the Alzheimer’s and that all had to stop as Grandma was worried people would get the wrong idea and hurt/accuse/shout at him.
Innocent until proven guilty is something people really forgot about. If anybody is following Rammstein, they’ll know. I don’t even like the band.
