Schools to be banned from letting kids change gender if parents say no

  1. >Teachers must tell parents their child is questioning their gender, even if the child refuses

    So, forced outing?

This wouldn’t be seen as acceptable for students questioning their sexuality, and research indicates forced outing can be very detrimental to mental health. What’s the logical benefit of this exactly? Outside of parents thinking they’ll be able to convert their children into not being trans?

I haven’t even seen a single argument from those supporting this as to why forcible outing in all circumstances is logical and reasonable. They’re just forcing it into guidance without thinking about it…

    >Even if parents do give the move the green light, heads must also consider the mental effects on other children before approving the gender change, following a long period of consideration.

So heads need to consider the mental effects on *other children*, but not the mental effects on the *actual questioning child* before forcibly outing them?

We’re heading to Section 28 Part 2 here.

  2. None of this is good, but the forced outing is the worst. We will see children murdered by their parents because of this.

  3. We’re in the middle of a renting and mortgage crisis that might cripple the economy.

Good to see the government has its priorities right /s

Edit: for those saying “governments can do more than one thing at a time” you’re missing the point: the government is choosing not to do anything on the above and is instead doing stuff like this.

The fact that government could do two things at once and has chosen not to is the problem.

  4. *In a move which will be seen as the PM taking on militant trans campaigners, teachers will be forced to tell parents their child is questioning their gender — even if the child objects.*

This part is especially worrying because if the parents are particularly LGBTphobic it could be putting the child in serious danger.

  5. “In a move that will be seen as the PM taking on militant PROGAY campaigners, teachers will be forced to tell parents if their child is questioning their sexuality, even if the child objects”.

Same thing as the gay panic, I imagine the intention to telling parents is so though they can be sent to therapy to challenge these beliefs cough conversion cough.

  6. this is a bit weird really.

I mean on the one hand there should be better communication between parents and their children about such issues but “parents say no” seems a bit of a draconian method to work through this societal hang up.

At the end of the day this is a failure to seperate gender from sex and the conservation of gender as some sort of binary concept. Really we need to remove the societal concept of gender altogether. People are who they want to be, as long as they are not harming anybody else.

  7. What this actually means, reading between the lines, is that Sunak and his party wish for ~~children~~ younger people to not have any control of their own lives and wishes if they don’t dovetail with what the parent wants. As if ~~children~~ they were property, rather than people.

Feels like a very slippery slope to me. For example, this asks teachers to inform on parents about anything a child is saying or doing in school. You might think, “good! the parent should know everything”, but if the parent is behind closed doors abusive, a teacher that is known to tell tales is letting *all* children under their care know that they can’t be trusted. If children can’t trust teachers, what other adult do they have immediate access to to escape an abusive parent?

(E: made some changes to pgph 1 after I realised that I also did in this comment what the article is careful to do to maximise outrage – *intentionally* use words like ‘kids’ and ‘children’ when in actuality referring to teenagers. The article’s even included a cheery image of a primary school child’s drawing to make sure readers are convinced this is some conspiracy to corrupt under 10s)

  8. Awesome. Can’t wait to see an increase in violence against children by parents, because they “questioned” their sexuality.

    Very Cool Tories! Thank you!

  9. Lol fuck off with the “militant pro GAY campaigners”

it’s like people just want to live with the same rights as 99.9% of other people, there’s no Gay Conversion Camp. the brass eye-mocked hysteria over a infinitely small issue on the national scale is crazy and fuck Sunak doubly for buying into it to sell people suffering and a community that lost a young woman to murder last year under the table just to distract from the Boris fallout.

also i have zero doubt (and zero confidence) in some gammon fuckwit making such a cock up as to mistake someone wearing a pink item of clothing for being gay or some such stereotype bull.

  10. Also saying that teachers and students don’t have to use someone’s preferred pronouns… not realising how dumb that is

Because I remember when I was a kid if I called someone a girl even though they were a boy, I’d get done for bullying! So they’re essentially saying I can call a cis boy a girl and that’s okay?!

  11. The anti-trans brigades continued denial that abusive parents exist is deranged and extremely dangerous.

The people who support these policies are either complete idiots or are abusive parents themselves

  12. that’s the party of self interest an individual liberties for you, as long as you have a note from your mum i guess

  13. >The guidance will be crystal clear on all fronts.

If this is true I’ll eat my hat. They’ll go for constructive ambiguity section 28-style.

  14. Lol yeahhh I’m not going to do that.

Plus the government cares so little about schools there isn’t the mechanisms in place to enforce this anymore.

It’s also not like they can fire me you’re going to find another teacher? Not likely no one wants to do the job.

Schools and teachers will do what we’ve always done, do our best for the students in-spite of the government.

  15. Already the case in many schools, including calling them by a different name, even in secondary school.
We have gender neutral uniform and gender neutral bathrooms, but because we’re an Academy we can’t do muc more than that.

  16. Do the Tories ever want another voter under the age of 50? I can’t see how they’re ever going to manage that. To paraphrase Mean Girls, they’re life ruiners. They ruin people’s lives

  17. There is SO much wrong with this, but three parts really stuck out:

    >And neither students nor teachers will have to call another pupil by their preferred pronouns if they do not want to.

That just sounds completely transphobic to me. It has nothing to do with parental engagement or knowledge, just spite and being a dick.

    >Only high quality teaching materials from approved providers will be allowed to be used.

And will schools have to pay for this? Will it actually be factual or bullshit agenda’d like below

    >Sensitive topics, such as gender, will not be presented as facts to children, with discussion encouraged.

    This goes against fact.

  18. I remember being gay and in school in the 90s. The other kids bullied me for being gay, but the teachers couldn’t even acknowledge me being gay. It’s almost as if it was the state was condoning the bullying that almost meant I wouldn’t be here right now.

Its horrible to see this happening to trans youths now 🙁

  19. As teachers we are told of the importance of ‘Keeping children safe’

    This conflicts with that.

We cannot tell parents that the child is questioning their gender, if they don’t want us to. There is a real possibility that could put them in danger.

I really resent teachers being described in the media as ‘woke’ to make us appear to be nutters, when in reality there are some very real reasons fr keeping children safe.

  20. Oh, what’s that? Tory policies specifically designed to harm a minority? You don’t fucking say.

This is going to achieve nothing except making the lives of some kids a misery, and potentially ending the lives of others. But let’s be honest, that’s the idea. Cunts.
