Dentists: a luxury for more and more Swiss people

  1. >Treatment at the university clinic can take three to four times longer than in a private dental practice.

Sounds like a solid plan to get 70% discount but this is a hard no for me. I already dislike it very much at the dentist, so I’d rather spend more money to be out of there asap.

  2. I read more more Swiss people complaining. Electricity is about surge in price by 16% next year. And this new law recently passed seems to be a huge problem. Reports of Swiss people not able to afford groceries even working full time. That’s quite scary. How real is all this.

  3. But when it comes to the dentis. Same as in Germany I read. Costs a lot extra only the bare minimum is covered by insurance and so on. Has a lot of people go to Spain, turkey and other countries to fix up their teeth

  4. Dentists are really expensive here in Switzerland. That’s just a fact. Some people go to foreign countries to have their teeth done , for example Hungary where it’s cheaper even including travel and hotel costs. I often wonder why dentists cost so much.

  5. Dental care is healthcare. Insurance companies shouldn’t be allowed to make distinctions between them.

  6. i went to “Adent” in geneva to align my teeth, while they indeed did fix my problem they are absolutely robbing people

the price of all this shit in total: almost 20K, that’s more than i made in my 3rd year of apprenticeship… (17K)

my parents ofc paid the bills but holy shit this is a robbery and i feel bad for my parents sometimes.

also i was supposed to go to an appointement in late 2021 or early 2022 and i never showed up, glad i did because the dentists there also talk to you like a fucking 5 YEAR OLD! i was fucking 17 and had a job…(pretty sure they try to be super nice to make you swallow the pricey bill or smth)

haven’t heard about them ever since.

  7. I recently had to take out 1 thooth because when I was a kid they did not do a good job with the root treatment… taking out the tooth was 1k, had to pay 3k for them to put in the basis of the implant… Now I have 3 more appointments ahead of me… 1 to open up the basis so they can put in the implant later. 1 for them to measure & model the implant and 1 for them to actually put in the implant. I’m expecting this also to be around 3k… so 7k for 1 thooth isn’t really reasonable anymore.

  8. Costs for me, I had a few checks on what work needs to be done here and just that was more than a flight over to Turkey…

So flights, accommodation, and the work done was fraction of the cost.

On top of that, the equipment was much more modern and they used newer methods, hard choice to choose a local dentist if it is not an urgent/emergency case.

  9. I am only 20 and they wanted 3000 CHF plus for the removal of my wisdom tooth. It doesn’t hurt at all right now so I didn’t do it. But I feel strange they are medical professionals and recommended the procedure and I have to reject it because of money. I can’t afford it now unfortunately. Maybe that will be a problem later but at least I can afford it then. Why is still a problem in Switzerland? I don’t get it.

  10. Yeah, coming from Spain, this is so far the only service where I see a really big difference in price, way bigger than the difference in salary.

In February I asked for a wise teeth removal in the city center of a big city in Spain (so not the cheapest place), they would do it for 120€ each but I didn’t have time to do it before moving to Switzerland. Here I went to a small clinic in a small city, and the same thing is 880€ each😅

  11. Very interesting report, I once had an extremely bad tooth pain and went to my.local dentist. Turns out it would have cost 1600 chf just for the root canal and the crown would have been 2500. I flew home.to ireland to get the treatment done for 1400 in total. The amazing thing dentistry in ireland is considered very expensive but it shocked me here. I fly home.for all my treatment when needed.

  12. With these prices why not just grab a flight to Poland for treatment there? You can probably get it done for half the price including travel.

  13. Eyes and Teeth seems to be something apart from the body in Switzerland. Probably because the are cute by « non » doctors people.

I’m French and I’m living here for 11 years. Had my 4 wisdom teeth removed in the hospital because they were growing with a 90 angle : cost : 45€

Had a ceramic implant 13 years ago. Cost 750€, now it would be 75€ (it’s now covered by insurance).

The prices here are absurd. I really mean it.

  14. > This is also why Borgis opposes the inclusion of dental care in basic health insurance. “It would reduce the quality of dentistry, because we would have to opt for the most economical solutions, as we have to do with people on social welfare,” he says. He draws a comparison with the situation in France. “Although dental costs are reimbursed by the social security system, the quality suffers,” he says. “So people who can afford it turn to private practices”.

    What a load of bullshit.

If you need dental treatment, **you need dental treatment**.

It’s better to have it, even at a slightly lower quality, than to not have it at all, as poor dental health is a serious condition. It used to be one of the major causes of **DEATH**.

Maintenance of quality is not an excuse if the alternative is people forgoing needed medical treatment. Every action should be taken to maintain quality, but essentiall what this boils down to is:

“Some of you peasants may not be able to afford this, and suffer the consequences. This is a price I’m willing to pay.”

  15. I made my teeth in beograd. For lile 2k i got everything done. Now after 8yesrs i got lile 2-3 things to do(nothing that hurt just looks little brown) and i pay 1200.- fpr that only.
    Its crazy expensove here

  16. Well, regarding dentistry in Switzerland it is similar like in dating (“Be attractive, don’t be unattractive…”) :

Have healthy teeth, don’t have unhealthy teeth…

  17. Anyone I know who lives less than 1h from the border has never seen a dentist in Switzerland in his life 🤣

I’m not even sure if there’s any outside of internal cantons.

  18. Switzerland has direct democracy, or so I’m told.

If a majority wanted to take care of this, they could.

Thus I must conclude, the majority of swiss people are okay with overly expensive health insurance, no dental, no eye, and also an ever-increasing rent and real estate market.

Nowhere else in the world do people get more of what they deserve.

  19. The truth is dentistry should have never been separated from medicine. It makes more sense as a medical specialty
