UK billionaire Hamish Harding on board missing Titanic submersible, family confirms

  1. Stuff like this is why I’d never want to go and see the titanic even if it were free. Humans aren’t meant to be in such extreme locations. Venturing into the crushing black abyss of Davy Jones locker just to see a pile of rust? No thanks. Hope they’re found safe and well but it’s unlikely.

  2. The whole venture seems a bit dodgy in the first place. Surprised they got people to pay for it. Hopefully, they are all found safe though.

  3. Imagine being a billionaire and dying doing something pointless like this.

You could literally do anything bud, yet here you no longer are because you wanted to flex and do things us plebs can’t do.

If I’m ever a billionaire you can mark my fucking words my life will consist of living on pacific islands and staying at fancy as fuck hotels in Africa.

    Fucking jebroni

  4. 🎼it’s a drowned death, visiting a sunken ship, and isn’t it ironic, don’t cha think? It’s like ray-he-yain!…

  5. The irony… the titanic was discovered as the cover for an American effort to find two sunken soviet submarines. They had extra time and happened upon it. So a submarine that went to look at the sunken ship that was found by a ship looking for sunken submarines sunk.

  6. The max depth for that sub(4000m) is very close to the depth of the titanic.. like literally 5% deeper and the sub can’t reach.. I’m going to guess its been worn down a bit over time and could no longer withstand the pressure even at 3800m?

  7. Imagine having a billion in the bank, being able to buy anything you want and you just risk your life for a bit of adrenaline. Couldn’t be me.

  8. If only he would know about such a thing like VR headset.. could visit titanic once a week without dying in real life

  9. Hamish Harding sounds very much like a British counterpart to the late Steve Fossett. Fossett was a U.S. businessman who was always described as an *adventurer.* If one is an adventurer, it’s best to have a net worth of at least a billion and live a life without fear of one’s mortality. In Fossett’s case, he set any number of records in aircraft, hot air balloons and race cars. One day he went flying in a Super Decathlon light aircraft and crashed into the leeward side of the High Sierras. He was 63-years of age.

  10. Why is this the headline? He’s not a celebrity. He’s not particularly well-known (to my knowledge at least). What is significant about this person being missing, above the other people on board? I’m sure all the families are equally devastated, and my heart goes out to each one.

  11. In the extremely unlikely event that somebody had a gun to my head and said I had to do this expedition or else, I’d take the bullet. Just the thought of it almost gives me a panic attack.

  12. Lack of power, no heat, oxygen lines freeze, that’s the good news…it may have depressurized before or after due to previously mentioned items. Not being morbid or cold and callous, but more than likely deceased, and if it depressurized, it may have been a blessing instead of waiting for the end.

  13. The pressures down there are like several tons per square inch on the subs hull. If it leaked its imploded. Lets hope its engine/systems failure and they’re found in time.

  14. No pings from the submersible. One story stated it is too deep for human intervention. This isn’t going to turn out well. Hamish sounds like a nice guy, but there are some things money can’t buy, of course.

  15. My heads full of conspiracies no thanks to Reddit, and it’s a knee-jerk reaction for me to hear billionaire missing. I instantly think who has he pissed off

  16. Stupid question maybe but it has a support vessel right? Why couldn’t it be tethered in some way?

  17. It’s the son I feel most sorry for. The rest of them are at least 50, which is no age to go, but at least have lived a decent length of life. And clearly a rich one because it costs over 200k to do this fucking thing.

And the song is just 19 and doomed because of his fucking dad.

  18. Coincidentally, I was watching this week a film about the Kursch, Russian submarine which went down with all hands killed, some by explosion, some through lack of oxygen, in some respects due to the Russians tardiness in accepting help from other nations and the fact that their rescue submersibles were unable to conduct a rescue, there was criticism at the time that some Russian submersibles that may have been able to help were sold by Russia to a company making tourist dives to view the Titanic. This was a number of years ago in the 90’s maybe, so I hope to god that the one in the headlines now is not the same one, I wish the rescuers the best of luck but it is looking increasingly dismal at the moment.

  19. I’ve been obsessing over this story since it broke. I can only fathom the insanity everyone felt as the lights went out and they hit the ocean floor in that small vessel (assuming that happened).

Hopefully it imploded from pressure and nothing was even felt.

  20. I’m willing to bet that Netflix already has two episodes of a three-episode miniseries ready to go and is just waiting to see how it turns out before they make the third.
