Yes. I think he’s experienced and smart enough to realise it. And bold enough to say it
It’s about time somebody in politics said what the majority of us were thinking
I mean it’s evidently been a totally indefensible shit-show of a policy that’s contributed to a lost economic decade and a society more divided than ever with most of the political architects entirely discredited. This will be undone, it’s question of when not if.
Brexit was always a very poor decision. Unfortunately, the current crop of politicians were all involved with it and we’ll have to wait 20 years for a new crop to come in and say ‘that was a really bad choice, we had nothing to do with it and lets correct it’.
While I agree we should look to closer ties and if possible reintegration with Europe, but I do like the idea of us just rocking up to the EU and saying “hi, we’d like to be the centre of Europe again, even after the last 7 years of our government constantly slagging you off”
Do they honestly think Britain will just be able to get back it’s former standing like “my bad guys, did a silly, just going to sit back in my special place seat and we will act as if the last few years didn’t happen, deal?”
Nah IF we are allowed to join once again it’ll be *bottom rung of the ladder and likely have to concede at lot of what we managed to ignore before all because idiots and racists fell for a sign on a bus and consummate liars who haven’t been honest once in their life while decrying all the “doomers” for worrying too much. It’ll be a shit show and half the voting public and our “leaders” should be held accountable for their stupidity.
*edit to one part of my comment that wasn’t worded as well as it should be and several people have rightly corrected it. “Bottom rung of the ladder” is incorrect, the best and hopefully likely situation is we will join equally as other countries have and would. We are still a big country despite our faults but should stand equally as a proper member of a union. Just hopefully we wouldn’t be made an example of which I believe is a natural thing to worry about however unlikely.
Fucking stupid idea, executed by fucking morons. Who could have guessed it would be shit?
I want us to rejoin the EU as much as anyone. I’ve been a European federalist since at least 2006.
With that said, I’m also a pragmatist and appreciate that the current most important thing is getting a new government in situ.
To rejoin the EU, there MUST be a mandate. That either comes in the form of a referendum, or alternatively and preferably, a party winning the general election with rejoining the EU or single market in their manifesto.
My gut feeling is that it will not (and probably cannot) be an issue in the 2024 election, but it will 100% be on the table in 2029.
Someone in the political establishment finally found the guts to say that the Emperor Has No Clothes.
Also, a whole political party has failed. But still running the country.
Time to return to europe, without any of the cool benefits we had before we left.
yaaaaaaaaay
EDIT: idk why a couple people got really triggered by this. I didn’t say “and so we shouldn’t do it”. I’m just pissed off at what a fuckup brexit was. Chill tf out lol
It would take a miracle to return with the same special privileges we enjoyed before we threw them all away.
pRoJeCT fEAR they said
i have no sympathy for brexiteers that srill think its a good idea lol , i feel bad for everyone else
It’s never going to happen though.
It would be sold as “undoing Brexit” and the EU is (quite rightly) only going to allow us to join on the same terms as any other new members – not the enormous sweetheart deal we had before Brexit.
Interesting groups of remainers bemoaning our situation at the moment.
The EU is in just as bad a fiscal position as us and Germany is in recession.
In other news, The Pope is Catholic and bears shit in the woods.
Spitting facts. We fucked up leaving the EU. Swallow our pride and work towards rejoining.
Brexit’s been an obvious disaster waiting to happen or a massive opportunity absolutely wasted depending on which side of that decisive coin you sit on.
Either way you look at it, it’s the Tories that have gotten us in this mess.
Whether you think they lead us selfishly into a void or monumentally screwed up leaving with their utter ineptitude, the state the the country finds itself in now is 100% their fault.
If someone can give me 1 reason (which has worked) why Brexit is good
It would be better for us to rejoin europe on shite terms than to not rejoin at all.
All we’ve managed to do is screw up our own country. It’s not even like anyone did this to us it was completely self inflicted.
Hey remember when leading Tory members were associated with hedgefunda that were shorting the GBP during the lead up to Brexit vote?
No brexiteer doea
Wait that dumb thing we did was NOT a good idea ! Who knew.
> “The time to recreate our position at the centre of Europe has arrived.”
I love the sentiment, but at this point we’d be lucky to score a position in the shit-stained outhouse of Europe.
We had a plum position, fucked it up because of our own arrogance and stupidity, and even if we’re ever allowed back in now it will be missing all our vetoes, missing a lot of rebates and losing the pound and associated control over our own finances at a bare minimum.
That’s not to say we shouldn’t still consider doing it, but let’s not do a reverse Brexit and lie through our teeth to people about Bre-enter.
You put your country in, your country out… in out, in out, referendums all around…
You do the Brexit-Exit and you fuck around…
That’s what it’s all about.
Woaaaaaaah the Brexit-Exit
Woaaaaaaah the Brexit-Exit
Woaaaaaaah the Brexit-Exit
And a hearty fuck you to Nigel Farage.
I think they should in the interest of democracy put it to a poll to see who wants a brexit vote and if it’s 60/40 in favour Of another referendum , britain should do it . It’s 7 years since and it certainly hasn’t improved the country
The difficult part is knowing which political party would run on the idea of re-joining the EU.
Whilst the EU is open to taking us back the way I see it is we have two main issues.
The main opposition party has ruled out re-joining the EU, whether or not this stance will change is yet to be seen.

The other issue is in regards to what the EU may expect of us in order for us to rejoin. While if a vote were held today I’d vote in a heartbeat to rejoin.
However, if that vote included the ditching of the pound and a move towards the Euro. I’d seriously struggle to decide.
On one hand I wish to rejoin the EU, on the other I’m not so willing to surrender one of the oldest running currencies in the world. It just has too much historical value and when it comes to issues of British Sovereignty and whatever else Pro-Brexit folks may use.
The ditching of the pound would like discourage a lot of people from rejoining the EU.

It would be a tight race for sure but I think it’s very possible the vote would fail if the pound was to be ditched.
Person who didn’t want Brexit in 2016 still doesn’t want Brexit 7 years later.
Don’t you just love this absolute farce that will affect our lives for the next few decades, possibly longer? If you don’t laugh the “told you so’s” will reach critical levels.
I still can’t believe the sheer ignorance that allowed all of this to happen.
every single politician who endorsed this doomed-from-the-start, sham of an idea should be held accountable
It was amazing that it was inferred we were under the thumb of the EU, but before we screwed ourselves, the UK gov actually had alot of sway
If only someone in the world could have warned what a bad idea this was.
Yeah let’s rejoin that neoliberal hellhole and subject the working classes to more economic hardship. Well done lefties!
The EU would have us back in a heartbeat. We’re still one of the largest economies in the world and one of the most important countries. (Increasingly less true since we left, but that’s another story.)
But it’s also true that there will be no special treatment for us anymore. Our bargaining power within Europe will not be as great as it was.
Nevertheless, I hope it happens. In ten, twenty years the difference will be huge.
