A notable way to remember the mistreatment of those who served us. Gaslight no more, and let the coin speak.
The last commemorative 50p the Royal Mint released – to mark 75 years since the founding of the NHS – came with a commitment that 100% of the net proceeds would go to NHS Charities Together. I must admit to being somewhat surprised that a percentage of sales from this aren’t going towards say for instance, educational resources to ensure that the story of the Windrush generation continues to be remembered.
That aside, I wasn’t initially a fan of the design but it’s grown on me. I don’t personally collect every commemorative 50p that the mint release (because that would be a quick way to financial ruin!) but as an important part of UK history I’ll be adding this to the collection at 9AM.
I think treating the people who came here on the Windrush with basic decency and not being nasty to immigrants in general would be a bit more helpful.
Why bovver. It’s worth about what the old sixpence was. Better to do a £5 coin and scrap the note.
