  1. This is a bit out of no where but I do like sharing this whenever I can lol: Kamil Pasha (who was a Turkish Cypriot) and his extended family had a strangely big role in the modern history of Jordan of all places. History is bizzare sometimes.

He’s firstly the main reason why its capital city is Amman. The place was completely abandoned until 1878 when the Circassian genocide began, and Kamil Pasha, wanting a vilayet centred around Amman, decided to settle them there (*and later other Circassians from within the empire along other peoples*), though it took until the construction of the Hejaz Railway there in 1903 for the revitalised village to become a proper city. Kamil is, unsurprisingly, also behind why modern Jordan has a notable Circassian minority.

And secondly, the current King of Jordan, [Abdullah II](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdullah_II_of_Jordan#:~:text=Abdullah%20II%20bin%20Al%2DHussein,throne%20on%207%20February%201999), is part Turkish Cypriot. [His grandmother](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zein_al-Sharaf_bint_Jamil) was half Turkish Cypriot, with her mother being, *drum rolls please*, the daughter of Kamil’s grandnephew! This one family gave Jordan both a capital city and two Kings (with more to come)!
