I dread to think what energy bills will look like in another 15 years. This idiotic country reaps what it sows.
This would be disastrous for the UK in every imaginable sense. Energy security, jobs, revenue, taxes. This will go down in history as a gigantic act of self harm which will make Brexit seem sane by comparison.
If any other country discovered the amount of oil we have on our territory, it would be a cause for national celebration and would be exploited to the max. The people who think we should forego it just truly do not understand the consequences it will have for us. Then they will act surprised pikachu face when things start falling apart quickly with sky high prices and shortages. If you’re young now, you will live to see that, and it will be the new normal for you. Windmills won’t replace what oil does. In future, oil will be significantly depleted and the price on the global markets will be very high. One day the countries who have oil will stop selling it to foreigners as they’ll need it all for themselves. Any country with its own supply will be in an enviable position. Any country without, will be left out in the cold. Literally.
It would be a death blow for Aberdeen and the areas
around it.
Think the coal mine closures 2.0.
Wind turbine companion hire very little technical day staff, vattenfel have a site in Wales, 60 turbines 6 day staff. All maintenance is done by a roving team.
A Kier Starmer pledge is pretty worthless so I wouldn’t worry too much about this.
We can’t deal with the power demand as it is with these dumb EV . We need more IQ in government
So the entire chemical sector should pause all investment too.
Now this will be interesting.
I’m not half as sure that this is all about the green issues as it is a toe in the water assessment of taking on their union paymasters.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see what develops in their first term. My betting is this policy vanishes, no matter how good an idea it might be.
While every other developing country will extract as much oil as possible, resulting in the UK having no positive effect on climate change, only UK exclusive economically negative ones.
UK produces 0.2% of global pollution yet we pay high green taxes. Pay more suckers.
How do we power the planes that take tired Brits for their summer holiday in Spain / Italy / Greece? Or must we accept that foreign travel is a thing of the past for lower-average income people?
