Labour does not rule out blocking public sector pay rises

  1. Important to read the article. It’s mostly just Labour saying they wanna wait til they’re in power to see the exact state of the economy

  2. Labour won’t do it for us, neither will tories, no wonder most humours I know already have plans to leave and most imgs that the govt is depending on are just using the UK as a springboard to the USA or Middle East

  3. They’d be stupid to rule anything out relating to economics when they have no idea what the economic situation will be like when they take power

  4. Statements like this are going to play into the hands of the Torys. If Labour are going to win they need to offer people better economic prospects. If there policy is ‘we’ll do the same as Sunak’ it will turn the election into one fought on social issues which Labour can’t win.

  5. I think both parties have some data about the state of the economy that’s made them really scared. Our economy is broken and the worse is yet to come.

  6. Independent pay review body says MPs should get X amount pay rise… Implemented in full. Independent pay review body says certain public sector workers should get X amount pay rise… MPs say ‘Nah mate’.

  7. I’ve never been a spoil your ballot type but it’s getting that way. Labour and Con are just two shades of the same colour, Lib Dem’s are flip flop giga NIMBY’s, Greens are in a coo coo land of student politics talking points, fed up lads

  8. Makes sense. I don’t know why so many people are butthurt about them taking a rational approach to this.

Promising the world then not being able to deliver is exactly what the Brexit lot did, don’t fall into the same trap.

  9. They would be stupid to guarantee them when they know they might not be able to keep their promise; remember how well that went for the Lib Dems and Nick Clegg. I have more faith in Starmer than Sunak (or whoever is leading the Tories come the next election), at least for now. I will take the lesser of two evils if it means getting the Tories out for even just one election cycle. For all of Starmer’s imperfections, he is still better than any Tory leader.
