Met Police asks people not to call 999 after ‘technical fault’ hits number of forces

  1. My girlfriend works for 999. This is the same across both the fire and ambulance service. Been down for nearly 2 hours at this point – crazy. Definitely call 111. They’ll then internally transfer you to the right service.

  2. This is insane – how has only 1 police department in the entire country acknowledged this in a literal tweet.

Like let’s be real, less than 1% of the population is going to see that tweet, 111 is going to be absolutely flooded by people who are unaware this is happening and people who are in life-threatening situations are going to be in a queue with them

Why hasn’t a national alert been sent out?

  3. I work for a telecom company and got called out at 07:30 for 999 calls failing on our network.

Failure is on the BT side, quote “the biggest outage you’ve ever seen”

    Shit’s fucked

  4. I had to call 101 yesterday as I was worried about my elderly neighbour who I saw wander off (I tried to get her to come back but she wouldn’t, I have a young son so I couldn’t just leave him and follow her) and I was on hold for at least an hour, and all the while I kept hearing snippets of other people talking through the hold music. Luckily another neighbour called as well and got through immediately so everything worked out but it did sound like the line had something wrong. Hope this can be fixed easily.

  5. 0118 999 881 999 119 always works for me, but then again I do pay for the premium service
