The benefits far outweigh the disadvantages. It’s about time it’s legalized.
Open it up for research and prescribing immediately. We can sort out recreational use legislation later. Perfect has been the enemy of good in this instance.

“An overwhelming 80pc of those surveyed would support the legalisation of cannabis for medical use, with an additional 56pc willing to prescribe the drug if it were legal to do so. Regarding the conditions for which they would prescribe cannabis, the most common response was pain management, followed by epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, cancer, anxiety, and depression.”
56% are willing to prescribe cannabis if it were legal to do so.
So many people on this Island are being denied some serious pain management. Crazy carry on.
I suffer from bouts of anxiety and in the past I’ve used cannabis and it worked wonders. I have been to GP and Hospital and offered various anxiety meds and refused. It’s crazy to see people like Jordan Peterson who had to be put into a medically induced coma so he could detox from clonazepam but if I choose to not take cannabis for a week or a month I won’t die because of it.
But if they did that then the guards would have to resort to taking the cocaine out of evidence locku… wait…
> The anonymous survey involved 89 Irish doctors
Ahh yes, the well known maxim of small self selective samples provide the most accurate results in social matters on display here /s
89 doctors is less than half a percent of the clinically active doctors in Ireland and of that, around a quarter of percent would actually prescribe cannabis.
How does this shite get published? It’s not worth the paper it’s written on.
If it was put to a vote it would pass easily. I can’t imagine 50% of this country give a shit if someone smokes a joint.
Prohibition has never been effective, is not effective currently, and will never be effective.
It does not reduce the numbers of people using, but it does increase the risks to users.
It additionally hurts non users because it damages society, increases and generates crime, and enriches the worst / most violent dealers. It also diverts policing time away from dealing with actual problems or crimes.
It benefits arguably nobody, although I’ve heard vaguely conspiracy theory ideas in that large alcohol companies are actively fighting the removal of prohibition because they feel it may damage profits.
Oh it’s as if the media and certain groups have been blatantly lying to people and completely blowing survey numbers out of proportion to further their own agendas
Add in the Garda corruption importing it to it and you can see why it’s still illegal. There’s absolutely no fucking excuses anymore. The most corrupt assholes in the country are just getting worse..
When are we going to put a stop to this because we just allow it ATM.
‘High’ levels of support to be sure
Wow almost like healthcare professionals understand what’s a health issue and what isn’t a crime issue
The government is more interested in listening to the handful or ancient fuck doctors that are willing to parrot war on drugs rhetoric.
My doctor is aware of my cannabis use and the effect it has on me. She is happy for me to microdose edibles to help with my anxiety, went as far to say its probably better for me then what she could prescribe.
I also suffer with lower back pain and some muscle pain in my legs. Usually down to over exertion and bad lifting techniques when I was younger. I use a homemade infused coconut oil rub when the pain flairs up. Again after talking to my doc she agreed if it helps and keeps me off strong pain killers, it’s better for me…..
I’d say many like me who are already self medicating are why the results look like that. Unfortunately as its illegal and people like me are not counted anywhere officially, there’s slim chance our experiences will be taken into account
