I moved from Ukraine month ago to work here in a cafe. But I got fired yesterday because I’m “too artistic” for this job. So they told me to pursue my dreams and be free from a “normal job”.

Im going to visit Ukraine for a surgery next week and will come back to Iceland with no plans.

Will move out from Ólafsfjörður to Reykjavik I think.
And if you can help me with the info about galleries here or art job.. I used to be a teacher of art in Ukraine.. like privat lessons.

  1. Those are cool I was thinking Landmannalaugar with the vibes of the colours. So you could at least to get some information on it I would recommend sending an inquiry or simply go to an art gallery and ask them if they’d be willing to display and sell. Regardless you might also try to offer to do paintings on Facebook, difficult to live off of your art in Iceland. Though I’m sure you can try to contact a gallery, to begin with you could try contacting art gallery 101 show them your art and ask them if they’d like to or not. You could also do commissions, I’m sure you can look for a job relating to teaching art in Iceland but I don’t know much on that. Regardless any gallery, should be willing to I believe though you should keep in mind that living off of your art in Iceland is difficult. I should know as I used to want to just work as an artist, but never really saw an opportunity for it to seek as a career you know.

  2. You could list them on https://apolloart.is/en perhaps? Also, you could try advertising both your art and lessons on many of the Facebook marketplace groups (brask og brall, allt til sölu, etc) Good luck 🙂

  3. There is NES residency for sure, also, in Rek you can find some galleries, I remember some around the hostel close to the seashore on the way to Harpa !
    Otherwise, if you are searching for work, I think you may find plenty anywhere on the ring road as long as you have a kennitala !
    We may need some people here around nord fjords (beautiful place + almost no tourists = the best)
    I saw art teacher job offer in Akureyri last month, but needs to speak icelandic 🤸
