  1. Yup i stumbled upon this last week! Saw an interesting flat to rent but I could not contact them in the first 3 days because I did not have this subscription. How stupid is that? So what I did was I subscribed for the 7 Day trial and contacted the guy who offered the flat and immediately canceled the subscription so it won‘t charge me. But the guy never responded lmao.

    homegate.ch is shit!

  2. Homegate is part of TX group, the company that owns Tages Anzeiger, and is trying hard to squeeze every cent out of people whenever they can

  3. Ha! Just so landlords can ignore me earlier than others? With that money can I get a name change to Müller?

  4. Monetizing on the housing crisis. If people subscribe, they end up in the same shit anyway, but at least homegate makes some $$$

  5. Well yes if you want to live in the golden cage aka best country on earth aka gods gift to man, these are the prices one must pay to apply to shoebox size apartments for 4k plus per month.

  6. Use Facebook/Anibis for house hunting. These paying sites are a con…much the same for “consultants” who make all sorts of promises and then propose things from Facebook and Anibis.

  7. Wait, they sponsor you a collections report? (Betreibungsregisterauszug)

That’s around 20 chf (including sending it via post), so it might actually be worth it if you hunt for a year and the owners/landlords don’t accept one that’s older than 3 months.

But yeah, the whole premise of this is to pay for something that already exists for you, but they take it away from the peasantry.

Meanwhile they can’t even offer a good search experience (in general those portals).

Why is “befristet/unbefristet” mit a mandatory field i can exclude/include?

Why do i find 4 room apartments for 800chf in ZH only to figure out it is a room in a shared flat and/or a scam? (As in: why are they clogging up my search results just because some idiot decides to not list it as a shared flat)

  8. The only thing our country hates more than foreigners and sensible policies is its own poor people. We’re a neoliberals wet dream and as such predatory business practices seem to become the norm.

  9. I saw this too last month and it is the most disgusting move from homegate.

You don’t get access three days earlier if you pay. Things just stay the same if you pay. However, if you don’t fork over the money, you can only apply three days later. Homegate frames ot the other way around, which is just blatantly wrong.

In the SRF news article regarding this move from homegate, they also quoted homegate saying that most flats are on average online for weeks. Therefore this would have no impact on the chances to get an appartment says Homegate. Again, this is utter bullshit. The average duration for which an ad stays online is not the correct metric. Median would be more telling, but for obvious reasons they are not providing that number. Even more interesting would be median per region, such as Zurich city.

Homegate is already making money off the landlords and current tenants who want to put an ad online. And it’s not cheap either. Now they want to cash in double by demanding money for the ad in the first place, and then also from applicants to get an advantage over other applicants. This is pay to win at it’s finest. Except that it’s not a game, but the space that people need to live in and exist.

Just disgusting. I hope people vote with their wallets and start using other platforms more often now.
