Help me find this place… I was there 5 years ago, and want to return, but don’t know the location. Small town with a huge monastery close to Madrid (north if I remember correctly)

  1. I can only name some towns or villages which remind me of that place: Segovia, Tarazona or Toledo… But I doubt they are any of those

  2. I was going to answer, but other people already did.

I did NOT know the place, but I just put your photo on Google Lens (mobile app) and it found the location immediately. I think even the hotel you were in.

So, next time, you know how to find it (although in Reddit you meet people)

  3. Ok el Escorial isnt just a monastery, it is a palace of the Royal House, and where the Royal family is buried at, so i REALLY recomend visiting. Also, since the building was constantly expanded its like visiting a tour of all ages of european modern history, from the austere style of the austrias to the most oppulent Roccoco of late borbons

  4. San Lorenzo del Escorial, the photo u took is from the plaza and the building in the background is the monastery, built under the reign of Felipe II

  5. I mean, if you’re impressed by that, maybe you should visit Segovia too. It’s not too far away from Madrid and it will be a nice day out visiting the acueduct, the alcazar, the cathedral, etc
