The triumph of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine: Despite setbacks, the jab has probably saved more lives than any other

  1. I don’t find the statement that it saved more lives than any other very credible.

For saving lives not only the absolute number of doses administered matters but also the demographic charactersitics of the vaccinated population, especially age.

Since AZ is primarily used in developing countries (not used in the US at all and only limited use in Europe) and these have on average a much younger population this does not support the hypothesis. Also the incidence rates in the respective countries matter. One had to look closer at the countries.

After all, I don’t think that this should be turned into a competition about which vaccine safes most lives. A further “politicising” of the issue is not helpful for anyone.

  2. Am surprised the Oxford scientist weren’t given a noble peace prize to be honest. The vaccine received unfair EU scrutinity and attack but it really was the differentiator for most of the 3rd world to getting vaccinated. The noble thing about it is that the UK didn’t even make profit from it unlike Pfizer and other U.S ones. Say what you want about UK, got to give it to them for not trying to make profit off the Oxford Astra.
