  1. > He told us he was very upset by what he had done, and he kept apologising for it, I think he was worried about the consequences of any trial and we explained that he could be jailed for between two and five years and be fined up to 15,000 Euro.

Yeah. Wasn’t upset *until* he was identified.

  2. Wasn’t exactly trying all that hard to stay anonymous, y’know since he carved his fucking name onto it

  3. Serious question. If he is back in the UK does he still have to pay the fine or just not pay it and never enter italy again?

  4. yes I think this is something one should be allowed to apologise for

  5. Is he British or does he just live in the UK? I read previously he was from Bulgaria.

  6. If he had carved his name on the Coliseum and then thrown some Christians at some hungry lions I would be less sympathetic to his cause. But if we are looking at historical precedent here then I don’t think he is quite as bad as people are trying to make out.

  7. Always sorry when they are caught – patheic excuse of a man & his gf just standing there not challenging him just as bad. Throw the pair of them to the lions.

  8. He’s done with the ‘fuck around’ part of his holiday and is now rapidly approaching the ‘find out’ part as he returns home.

  9. He isn’t British, he just lives in Britain. Yes it matters, if it didn’t matter it wouldn’t be mentioned in the headline.

  10. 27 years old? What a wasteman. When I read the article I assumed it was a teenager or possibly early 20s. I’m 27 and I wouldn’t consider doing something so childish. This guy has had more than enough time on this planet to learn about consequences.

  11. Fine him and ban him from Italy permanently. Jail time would be a waste of a cell and cost the government more than its worth.

  12. I MIGHT feel sorry for him if he hadn’t turned around and smirked at the camera then carried on. He’s only sorry because he’s been identified.

  13. everyone dragging him and yeah it was a silly thing to do, but he was clearly just ignorant not malicious, i think 2-5 years in jail is fucking ruthless considering what hes done, take into account the wider spectrum of his life etc do you all really think his life and the lives of his family should be upended for writing his name on a wall? yes its an ancient monument but thats all it is, writing his name on a wall doesnt hurt a fucking fly and could probably be restored jn some way, whereas he is a conscious living creature and a long jail stint could have immeasurable snowball effect on his life and the lives of his family, personally i place more worth in people than material, imo a largeeeee fine would be more appropriate …

    go on, lecture me.

  14. Let’s see if he’s still begging forgiveness after he pays the fine.

  15. As an Englishman I am an advocate for this man being handed over for a meaty punishment, sick of Brits abroad making us all look bad

  16. It says the trial is due next year in the article and he has expressed remorse after being spoken to by the Italian Police who sourced his mobile number from hotel records.

So I guess we will have to see if he attends trial and if not what the Italian judiciaries next step is.

I also thought that he was Bulgarian living in the U.K. I don’t think it really matters, he did something incredibly stupid although there didn’t seem to be any malicious intent.

  17. It’s funny how time changes things like this. We treasure the vandalisation of Pompeii because we like to see ancient cock drawings and shit like “Hic ego puellas multas futui”. But because this guy did it recently, we don’t value it.

  18. I wouldn’t bother with jail, just kick him out and hefty fine… idiot

  19. What a fucking twat. I hope he at least gets a heavy fine. As someone else pointed out he only started being sorry and begging for forgiveness when the police found him. Didn’t seem too upset when a civilian was calling him an arsehole.

  20. As he’s Bulgarian and just lives in Britain, Britain will not fight for him and he will be extradited to face court should he not go willingly.

  21. 400,000 people mudered there. And people are freaking out about a scratch on a brick. What are they going to do, throw them to the lions?

  22. I don’t care where he is from. Throw the book at him.

  23. So, I’ve visited ruins of ancient Egypt, the roman ruins in the forum and plenty of ancient churches across Europe.

Some of the most interesting parts about all of them is the graffiti from visitors and pilgrims from across the centuries.

In Egypt for example there is ancient Roman graffiti where Roman tourists have written stuff like “ventidius has a big dick” in Latin.

This seems to be a pretty normal human impulse and putting the guy in jail would be insane imo.
