>The owners of the UK’s biggest trawler have described a new government deal to win back fishing rights following Brexit as “too little, too late”.
The great fishing industry we had has been in decline since the 1950s I think. The fact that there is only one of these boats left in Yorkshire and that one has to go into Norwegian waters to catch the required fish indicates the sorry state of our waters.
Anyone any idea if UK Fisheries (CEO Jane Sandell) supported or opposed Brexit?
Edit: Given they’re a Dutch subsidiary, maybe not?
This is what they voted for and most of all they **knew*** they were voting for this.
* At least that’s what every brexiteer used to trot out “we knew what we were voting for”.
So what? Maybe next time they’ll think before they vote. Merry christmas to them all of course. No offense. As tories crooks said: Keep moving on. Lol
Im pretty certain Boris doesn’t care. If it was Britain’s largest wine and cheese trawler that could be a different story.
They got what the voted for.
I have more sympathy for all the people who have been screwed over and _weren’t_ stupid enough to vote for this.
They voted, in large numbers, in Hull and surrounds, to inflict this on themselves and others. They deserve and get zero sympathy
Ermmm:
> as a member of the EU, the state-of-the-art trawler was able to catch around 10,000 tonnes of Arctic cod in Norwegian waters, but this has now shrunk to a “derisory” 500 tonnes.
Okay fine. (although I am at a bit of a loss as to how being in the EU help there – given that that Norway is not in the EU). But then the article goes on to say:
> Norway is allocating the UK 6,550 tonnes of cod around Svalbard, which can be fished by Kirkella,
Ermm so which is it? 500 or 6,550. Or does the “cod around Svalbard” not cunt as being in “Arctic cod in Norwegian waters”.
My artic geography isn’t great; but I don’t think the Yorkshire Post can assume that anybodies is – their inability to explain to and inform the reader as to what has actually happens makes me think they’re hiding something.
But I thought post Brexit the UK held all the cards? /s
