The top one is technically not true. It is illegal to be drunk in public, no?

For some people it’s like this:
Alcohol = drunk => sleep it off = legal
Weed = psychosis => psychiatrie = illegal
Alcohol is considered a hard drug, way more dangerous than a weed on the scale. But it’s a cultural thing /s
Belgians vote conservative. Even socialist parties are very wary of changing the status quo.
Why? Because a party proposing legalisation will lose the people vehemently opposed to that. And there are not enough single issue voters who are pro legalisation for a party to benefit from adoption the proposal. Meaning that the best course of action to retain voters is… nothing. Ambivalence.
This will change if there is a party that pushes legalisation as their biggest point AND they get traction. Then parties will research what their voters think about this. They will simply do the math to see what will cost/win them more voters, being for or against them.
It is one of the reasons so many parties now have a stance on ecology and immigration. Groen/Ecolo and Vlaams Belang became too big to ignore so the parties had to react.
It’s illegal but people still do it, except with that current situation there’s no way to regulate it. Just legalize it for fucks sake
