Flat no.9? Please tell me someone isn’t renting out nine sheds in their garden.
The only people who could realistically afford this and still have some money left over for utilities etc. would be a couple who are both on around 35k. Or, if you’re a single person you gotta be a tech worker or other high skill job on around 55k. And for all your hard work you get the privilege of living in a shed in someone else’s back garden 🥰🥰🥰
We need to boot out the current landlord politicians who are artificially restricting the housing supply so that the price of their investments doesn’t fall. Only once this is done we could then maybe start building government subsidised housing in the city. I legit don’t care if they’re panel-built commieblocks, anything is better than the current situation.
In the 60’s and 70’s the government built housing at a loss for the good of everyone. Nowadays they’re running a for-profit business for them and their mates.
I moved out of Ireland last year. Happiest years of my life were in Dublin, so many great memories living in the exact same region of this apartment.
Like 5 minutes ago I was in my bedroom thinking how much I miss it and all the things that made me happy back then and I don’t have it anymore and how I would love to return if I had the chance to get the same type of accommodation I’m getting right now in my new country.
Then I open reddit and this is the first thing I see and I try to tell myself again that I’ll never go back to Ireland.
Feral kids, healthcare, infrastructure. I can deal with all that shite but the rental market is too much.
