He’s saying it’s a choice to be on the poverty line when his party has pushed millions into food poverty.
Scum bag
Really makes me wonder how we’ve managed to get to have such a vile bunch of people as MPs. Braverman, Mercer, Anderson etc. Like when the light is on them its really clear that they will never represent their constituents just their own views. Its the opposite of what democracy is supposed to be and its just overwhelming how many of them there are.
These people all go to the same schools and universities and care nothing other than getting richer
Obviously it’s a choice but when the alternative is starve it’s not much of a choice
I’ve said it plenty of times but I’ll say again I just do not understand these kinds of Tories who seem *relatively* normal but just so lacking in self-respect and spine that they betray what they claim are dearly held values. To the point that they wind up in positions like this telling people they came into politics to represent and defend that if they’re hungry tonight its probably their own personal moral failings to blame.
He’s not wrong, it is a choice: food bank or starve to death.
Wonder why more people aren’t taking option b?
That’s true, some of them haven’t even *tried* eating the black mould conveniently growing right in their own bedrooms first.
Luckily voting for the tories or not will also be a choice facing the general public in 2024.
Johnny Mercer with a majority of 12,000 or so in Plymouth is quite likely to be out of a job.
Well yes I suppose deciding to use a foodbank in order to eat for a few days and starving is a matter of choice but hey people get to choose you overprivileged , entitled twat
It’s a choice in much the same way that eating is technically a choice.
Well yes it is, but the alternative choice is starving to death, so…
Come on you tories, let’s have your opinion on this?
I was hopeful that Mercer would help break the mould when he was new but instead he’s just become another indoctrinated Tory prick and a betrayal to the service personnel he purports to champion. Piss off Mercer you spineless fucking Judas.
Obviously it’s a choice. But the alternative is starving. So in the same breath, breathing is also a choice.
What a ridiculous thing to say. I very much doubt anyone’s making the proud choice to use a food bank
Mercer has always been a weapons grade bell much like the rest of his lot. Trouble is they will still be in charge for a while so the country will only get worse
Anyone who votes Tory at the next election is voting for a party who don’t give a shit whether soldiers, nurses, care workers and innocent children have the right to adequate nourishment.
Is there anyone who can wholeheartedly give me a good reason why you’d still vote for this lot?
Ah yes, good ol Johnny Mercer. Totally ashamed that he’s an MP from down here in Plymouth so makes up for it by conning and lying like the London boys.
When he has a secret job on the side, its smart. If someone on universal credit did that he’d be calling for jail time.
I watched him being interviewed on GB News and he was referring to military personnel and not the general public
He’s a tosser. I work in local government with the Household Support fund, try telling 95% of our residents that food banks are a fucking choice. These fucking arseholes who come up with this shite are bottom barrel cumsuckers.
The choice is ‘go to a good bank or starve’.
Yay for the free market!
He is right, you can choose to starve or choose to live
This is worse than molly maes “everybody has the same 24 hours”
I hope to god that at some point in his miserable life, he’s unfortunate to get to “make the choice” to use a fucking food bank.
Demolishing the country, selling what it can for scraps, and having the gall to throw the consequences of their actions into the faces of those hit hardest.
Fuck you royally, Mr Mercer. May your family some day feel the deep financial damage you have helped bring upon this country.
Please have a revolution already. Is being spat on by the rich some sort of fetish in this country?
Cannot stand this guy. We’ve all him in his rugby shirt with the collar up, hugo boss jeans and shoes. Bellend
Just reminding everyone that voting for politicians who think this way is actually a choice. Time for some different choices.
I guess if you’re wealthy, entitled, arrogant, self-serving and a waste of public money, it is..
Put him on benefits and lets see what he says then. He couldn’t last a day.
Well I would suggest he has a word with himself. People are working their arses off and still not earning enough to pay the bills or buy food.
I wonder how many meals his kids have gone without.
Yeah.. you choose to either eat food bank food, or starve..
Johnny ought to know using the John’s is a choice too. He can bottle it all up moving forward.
He’s right – we’re all sitting here whinging when we could just be scoffing down some succulent Tories. Eat le rich and all that.
Nothing beats the homegrown taste of hypocrisy, after all. Could guzzle coffee black as Rees-Mogg’s heart, from sunrise to sundown, and still never find a flavour as bitter.

Just for fun [here’s an article](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/conservative/11654990/Afghanistan-veteran-Johnny-Mercers-Westminster-mission.html) praising Mercer after his first election in 2015 for his determination to transform how we support the members of our armed forces.
