Wow, never thought I would read that title.

That being said, supposedly Springsteen has a place on the Meir, so who knows – next up: Billie Eilish moves into a bungalow in Kapellen? The Weeknd acquires villa in Boom? 🙂

  1. Why not. A’pen is a big fashion place, there is one of the world’s best recording studio in Ixelles (next door by American standards) and the Deurne airport is very functional but discreet.

  2. As long as he keeps his shitty music out of the Wijnegem Shopping Centre I don’t give a fuck. Wouldn’t recognize the guy anyway as I don’t care about celebs either. Except for Johnny Depp – still my childhood crush. 😉

  3. When I was working for a company in Schoten (4-5 years ago), he was one of our clients. So he’s had ties with Antwerp for a while now.

  4. Weird that this is news now, it’s been known for well over a year. Well, at least last year there were rumours about either Kanye or Beyonce.

  5. Well I have been thinking about it and there are many elements that would make it a logical decision for celebrities to have a ‘base’ in the benelux:

    – location: central in Europe with lots of easy connections to the rest of the world, before this used to be London but with Brexit London isn’t the easiest anymore, residency in London does not grant you access to EU anymore…
    – mentality: it is fairly easy for celebrities to live a normal life here since our media is not as crazy as in many other countries and in general privacy of these people is held in high regard by journalists etc. (Very little sensational/scandal journalism)

    – economy: Belgium is indeed quite highly regarded in many industries (festivals, fashions..) and even though we are a small country, we do have some very big ‘niche’ sectors (pharmaceuticals, harbour of Antwerp, potatoes, biotechnology, graphic visuals…) which also attracts a lot of expats and thus make it generally easy for english-speakers to ‘survive’ I think

But for Kanye I think the second one is the most important as even within Europe, Belgium is rather an anomaly when it comes to how we deal with celebrities in public life. Most Belgians wouldn’t bother them too much, unless they are a really big fan, and even then we would try to be as respectful as possible (of course this is a generalization) but on average a lot less ‘annoying’ than in many other countries in the world I would think.
