The way the duolingo example is written, I would agree it looks like it should be «ditt egg». To me, it looks like who owns it is much more interesting than what it is
Both are correct. It is a question of emphasis. “Det er ditt egg” focus on the fact that you are the owner of the egg. “Det er egget ditt” brings more focus to what it is that you own, namely an egg
