You mean all the boys influenced by the toxic twat Andrew Tate. Nothing to do with lockdown.
Would that even make a difference at all? Feels like MPs just say shit for the sake of saying it. Obviously idk what school is like now, but PSHE was a doss lesson and the kids that loved misogyny and being edgy the most were never paying attention anyway.
I was sexual assaulted in school and didn’t report it due to not thinking boys could be victims, all the sex education only mention girls as victims, sex education needs to be gender neutral.
No different to my gen now early 20s, we were vilified by saying all boys are predators etc.
These comments are a joke.
So girls in school are suffering because of harassment and violence and what you’re worrying about is painting boys negatively?
What the actual f*ck?
So let’s let them keep doing it, god forbid we hurt their feelings? Wonder why we have a problem then, their parents probably have the same mentality.
Boys need role models. Unfortunately there are a lot of single parent households where there is no present father figure. Additionally there is an over-representation of women in education.
Tate is filling a void, and without something more constructive to fill that void, other peoplw will.
Girls are told from the day they are born they can be anything they want. Boys are told to not be a rapist when they grow up. We need to start inspiring young men and boys.
This makes sense… Choke slamming women during sex is definitely not the norm.
These comments are something else, didn’t think this was an anti feminist incel sub Reddit
If lockdown influenced the sex education this much, maybe they need to look at social skills as a whole. The 12-14 yo in our neighbourhood are now setting fire to abandoned houses and throwing stones at neighbourhood houses/windows. This wasn’t something that happened before lockdown I would say (not where I live).
We need a reform of education in general. It’s not fit for purpose.
However, specifically to this article – it’s a convoluted issue with many facets, but ultimately boils down to the fact that many young men come from broken households, and lack suitable guidance or role models. With the rise of Andrew Tate this has gotten worse, and I’m of the firm belief that easy access to pornography doesn’t help either. It doesn’t help that nobody talks to them about all this.
Perhaps the most frustrating part, however, is the total lack of empathy shown to young men. There’s a lot of misandry out there, and absolutely no support in combatting this. We have a generation being taught they are “evil”, no matter what they do. Many are incredibly lonely.
Sexual violence is abhorrent and we need to do everything possible to eradicate it, however demonising young boys is not the way to go.
It’s not just lockdown and it’s not just boys- we’ve always direly lacked decent sex ed in this country. When we did it a decade ago consent wasn’t mentioned even once- I learned most of what I now know about what abuse is and how to spot it by volunteering at the rape crisis centre in my late teens. Most teens don’t get that experience. And I’m still seeing a worrying amount of young people on the sexuality subreddits who don’t know incredibly basic things like what or where a cervix is.
Why just boys? Girls can be just as bad. I’ve had instances of girls at school lashing out at my boy.
Use the current American system. ‘You are all xyz or criminal bigots!’
And what does this mean, exactly? What is the solution? More finger wagging and shaming, more blame, more moralising?
It hasn’t worked in the past, but maybe if you just wag your finger REALLY hard, this time it will?
Or you could look at the underlying causes… No, no, silly me, of course not, better to conclude that they’re just fundamentally evil and need to be civilised like savages.
So many issues with locking down were communicated at the time, and none of us listened. The mental health aspects will be felt for decades.
“lock down generation”
It’s been 2/3 years… How does that even begin to be a”generation”
