Boris Johnson news – live: Britons ‘less likely to follow rules’ as No 10 lockdown parties dent trust in PM

  1. Trust and BoJo should be in the same sentence only when talking about off shore assets (I am sure he has plenty)

  2. Obvious, really. People in charge are supposed to set an example, not make it very obvious that they (rightly, as it happens) think that the rules don’t apply to them.

  3. I’ll follow the rules like the Government wants me to, but I’ll also use my own common sense to interpret the rules to how I best see fit, like the Government apparently wants me to.

  4. This is anecdotal, but stepping away from spaces like Reddit for moment, and based on work colleagues and the everyday person on the street or in the supermarket or just milling around, I got the feeling that before Omicron was a thing that people were getting ready to move past Covid, on the whole.

Yes, masks were still being worn by lots of people, but after the summer and the huge uptake of vaccine x 2, it felt like a collective sigh of relief had permeated across most of society.

*Now I’m not saying this is a good thing, before I get a load of replies saying “how can you say we are anywhere near over Covid!?!?!”* – but I think it *is* a thing purely as an observation of human behaviour of those around me.

The news about parties and people in government- or associating with the government- taking the piss during peak restrictions is essentially a double whammy, and has made another lockdown go from being a *tricky sell* to being a *really, really hard sell*.

And its all their own fault. A lockdown will be begrudging regardless, you wouldn’t expect people to put rainbows and smiles back in their windows after 2 years of this, but if they’ve lost the goodwill of the room and do get a lot of pushback and non compliance then it’s ultimately on them and a bed that they’ve made for themselves.

  5. I’m all for fuck the government, but if we need to lockdown I’ll lockdown to protect the vulnerable and the NHS, I won’t not just because of those criminals.

  6. His govt is a fucking joke

    His ministers are fools

    His leadership is non existent

The only place I’d follow Boris is to the edge of his sunny uplands to kick the cunt off it and into the sea.

Like everything the lockdown will come late and with mix messages, all so Boris can be seen as the saviour of Xmas as opposed to the cunt who killed your gran in a care home this time last year.

  7. Ill wear a mask and gel and wash my hands and minimise contact. Not gone to a pub or sports event or busy shopping centres…

I’ll also be spending christmas with my family and visiting some friends in Jan, whether rules suggest I can or not.

I followed the rules to the letter last year. The risk now is lower with everyone vaxed.

  8. Why would people mimic what that fool does, is common sense lost in Britain? Not even self-preservation can persuade you to do the right thing.

  9. Who ever trusted what BJ says should have head examined and likely needs mental help. They clearly are not rational or paying attention.

However, we should still listen to the experts, who are truthful and know what they are talking about.

  10. Covid rules and also the law now the Met have exposed themselves as essentially corrupt.

It’s a free for all in the UK.

  11. Has anyone actually still got any trust in this numpty?
I am not disappointed when he lies anymore as I am conditioned to expect it…
I hate the current Tory overlords.

  12. Not only has this government wrecked any authority it had with their hypocrisy, but that seriously harmed the effectiveness of any restrictions they do bring in. Many will (and I do somewhat sympathise with them) feel entitled to break the rules because of this deficit of authority.

Separately and probably even worse, we’ve seen this government is opposed in taking any actions by a huge number of their OWN MPs. It’s extraordinary that a government should have to rely on the OPPOSITION to pass public safety legislation in a national emergency. They have lost control utterly – of the people, of their party, of national policy.

There is surely no way they can continue. And yet they limp on. If things get worse then many more will die because of their paralysis.

  13. 23% of the population still think he’s doing a good job ! Fuck me …. What would he have to do to be considered to have done a bad job ???

  14. The people that will follow the rules are the people that didn’t need rules set for them in the first place to wear a mask indoors, avoid crowds where possible, work from home etc.

They’ve right the fucked it for everyone else which is why this will never end until COVID evolves into something less harmful.

  15. Shock news: man who has proved untrustworthy towards his friends, his employers, his readers, his colleagues, his wives and children….turns out to be untrustworthy towards his electorate.

  16. Its all sensational bullshit, If it wasn’t reported on so heavily then people by the logic in this thread then people would be obeying lockdown rules more, so by reporting on it and publishing it they have probably indirectly killed more people via covid, are they a repsonsible media, no, they are worse or the same as boris for reporting on it fucking daily until people say I got the ‘fuck it’ message.
They instigate, promote and tell the public what to think with this shit and the masses lap it up and act righteous and rebellious thinking they are clever and special for doing so but in reality the people are just predictably reacting to a given input.
The better question is who is promoting this fucking agenda and why, it’s obviously provocateur material, just take 2 minutes out of your life and wonder why you need to be distracted.

  17. My question is where were these photos before? Where was the info about the rule breaking. The proof existed? Why is it all dumped now? The party, the lunch or whatever that was with BoJo? Am I seeing too much into this? I bet he’s just tired and couldn’t be bothered anymore and he’s like “release the kraken I’m out”

  18. The way to get people to follow you again is if there was conciqences for borises actions. Nothing is getting done about it. I mean like people have been fined or even arrested for a similar circumstances. So why should people stand for such hypocrisy and disregard for what is being preached and forced by law apon the people.

Even some agknolagment would be nice.

  19. When I saw that mock press conference of them laughing about breaking lockdown rules I knew the majority of Brits would never follow government lockdown rules again. This criminal government has destroyed the trust that the British people were willing to place in them at the beginning of all this and god knows how much damage that has caused.

I wish the public could call a vote of no confidence because I can’t think of a time when the people have had less confidence in the government during a time they so desperately need it.

  20. Fuck off with the boris Johnson news. He isn’t news!

And I don’t know what everyone was doing last Christmas, but I but sure as hell wasn’t staring my living room walls watching the news.

  21. I see a lot of people using Johnson’s bad behaviour as justification for their own which is pretty sad.

You can see why Tories get elected across vast swathes of the UK though, no sense of society whatsoever.

  22. If they’re going to announce a lockdown 3 days before Christmas, they can fuck right off lol.

Already made all preparations to meet up with family, all presents done etc. They seriously don’t expect me to follow the rules they made up if they don’t even follow them themselves, right?

  23. We’re having a Boris Johnson Christmas this year. We’re going to do what we want, when we want and where we want. If anyone complains, we’re going to hold a rigorous internal enquiry and publish the results in 2082.
