An absoloute disgrace. Norfolk police officer getting away with a hit and run that he didn’t report due to …… Amnesia
This needs to go before a jury with a full explanation because it sure as hell sounds like someone needs to be jailed and sacked here.
“He will also not face misconduct charges after medical evidence was presented that was suffering from amnesia at the time.” – And let me guess, this was “diagnosed” after the crash, was diagnosed based on cognitive & memory tests and not because of any brain injury etc visible on a scan, and has since resolved itself to allow him to continue working in his job?
For anyone that didn’t read the article, the footage wasn’t deleted in the sense of someone has nefariously gone out of their way to destroy evidence.
The footage wasn’t correctly tagged, and was deleted after a set period of time.
Whilst I don’t know exactly how this force’s system for footage works, in my force, all footage is saved for 30 days from the date of upload, and then is automatically deleted. You have to explicitly tag footage that you need saved for longer, and type a rationale as to why you need it saved. This is for both data protection and financial reasons, as the volume of footage we store is huge.
Assuming their system is similar to ours, it is very easy to lose footage if you aren’t regularly having to save footage. For example, my line manager has no idea how to save footage. Why? Because his role is 95% office based, so he doesn’t have any footage recorded, let alone saved.
If only you guys knew the sort of stuff that’s reported around here by that police force. We have had colleagues of this officer sacked for shop lifting, pressuring takeaways for free food, excessive force in arrest (filmed but dismissed), claims of fitting folk up, constant blunders including losing evidence etc.
If I said that nonsense to my insurance company then I would be hauled over the coals
Please don’t bring anti-police hysteria from America into this country. Back the boys in blue
Bit odd that the Sgt even had his camera on to have that conversation in the first place.
the french public wouldn’t let them get away with this shite
