  1. Good bye, time machine. It’s so easy to look for a place and see “oh, that’s where uncle Abu’s second-hand shop used to be “

  2. Google Street View is genuinely an amazing thing. I’ve used it so many times to check out a place in advance so I can easily find my way around, but also it’s just fun to “visit” foreign countries without actually going there.

Plus it’s a great time capsule. Like, in 200 years, people will be able to look back at all this data and see what the early 21st century looked like. Although reading the article:

    > Among them is a requirement to delete older images, which means that you won’t be able to use Street View to travel as far back in time in Germany as in other countries once the new imagery is live.

  3. for some reason my house went from a 2022 picture back to 2009, when somebody drove his car in my front yard lol.

  4. Most of the german street views currently are from 2008. In my mind that doesn’t seem that long ago but when you actually view a street view in say berlin in 2008 it looks so dated.

  5. Scholz must have watched those Geoguesser tiktoks.

  6. How many bank or business robberies do you think have been facilitated by Google Maps?
