Boris Johnson says there will be no new Covid rules before Christmas

  1. > But Boris Johnson said “we can’t rule out any further measures after Christmas”

How fucking meaningless. Even if they did ‘rule out’ something it’s impossible to know if he’d actually mean it and keep his word.

Either way, the NHS is fucked.

  2. I love seeing all the doomers proved wrong time and time again. I bet some people on here are gutted we’re not going into another lockdown

  3. As much as I hate Boris, I’m not surprised. If he did introduce Christmas restrictions and ruin Christmas for the 2nd year, that would be political suicide, especially after his own parties and gatherings got exposed. He is doing this to make him seem likeable tbh

  4. 16th Dec 2020; Borris announces ““I don’t want to ban or cancel Christmas. I think frankly that would be inhuman.”

19th Dec 2020 ; 34% of England population put into Tier4; Christmas Cancelled.

  5. Still a lot of uncertainty, like they might still ban travel or impose a lockdown and I’m due to travel soon with no guarantee that I won’t be stuck abroad

  6. Shits already being shut down because of covid cases but there are no protections for businesses. They’re on their own

  7. Wait for them to land on Boxing Day or just after New Year.

Just enough to cool the fallout from “cancelling Christmas”, while throwing the NHS under the fucking bus again.

  8. Pretty much we all saw this coming. Sacrifice a few thousand people to the virus for political point scoring

    Playing politics, what a projection.

  9. I have a ‘second Christmas’ on the 27th or 28th every year with my Dad, his wife and my sisters, seeing as I always go to my Mum’s for Christmas day. I really don’t care if there are new restrictions put in place on boxing day – I will not be sacrificing seeing that part of my family again. We will just do it regardless, (albeit we’ll all take lateral flows in the morning beforehand) and I very much doubt that we’ll be the only ones. We’ve all got our 3 jabs now and there’s nothing else we can do.

  10. **Fuck off you lying cunt, nobody is going to listen to you anymore. Deluded twat. Fucking fed of your shit.**

  11. This government have been doing dreadful things for years,l. Now, people I know who have previously always defended the government are finally changing their opinions.

It’s so frustrating it took something like Christmas parties for the penny to drop. Kinda shoes how self centered people are.

  12. Can someone actually explain what the issue is. If you look at Hospitalisations there is no steady increase at the moment to suggest it’s about to get out of control. Why does anyone want boris to lockdown for the sake of it.

  13. Till a press conference is called at 5 pm tomorrow and restrictions are announced.

Unfortunately, where we are looks to be largely where we will be staying for the medium term.

It’s probably worth considering whether it’s now reasonable to let some businesses fail – it’s grossly unfair on other taxpayers to constantly pay bailouts for businesses that are effectively bankrupt when if said taxpayers are made redundant, they get means tested universal credit or limited time JSA. You’ll notice that the businesses that are demanding support aren’t offering to pay it back = socialise losses and privatize profits.

You also aren’t seeing anyone furloughed stating they’ll pay additional tax to repay the money they got above standard state benefits.

I’d say radical reform of unemployment benefit is required so that proper support is available for all with an additional tax percentage for the length of time claimed when back in work.

If businesses need loans to stay afloat, then these need to be secured. Perhaps on businesses buildings or other tangibles, plus the businesses that get the support should pay additional tax to repay it.

  14. The only reason that he is doing this is because his popularity will be damaged by ruining xms. Sacked off COBRA meetings again, fuck the damage that it could potentially do to the health service with large numbers of staff on the sick with covid and an untreatable number of patients, his popularity is more important. He really is beyond the fucking pale.

  15. I don’t understand why so many people on this appear to want to Boris to announce some kind of additional restrictions..

This is different from the start of the Pandemic and when delta appeared.

All the evidence coming from multiple countries all suggest that Omicron is less lethal.

Yes it is more highly transmissible which will cause issues for the emergency service especially for the NHS because ultimately it doesn’t matter what kind of virus medical staff, you can’t have people who are have a highly transmissible virus treat people who are sick.

This isn’t the fault of Omicron but the Tories and a decade of massively underfunding the NHS which has left it with nearly 100,000 Medical vacancies.

If even half of these vacancies had been filled we wouldn’t be in the situation we are in now.

What is even more interesting is figures out today have show that 40% of people who are currently in hospital with covid where admitted for different reasons.

In other word those 40% are in hospital not because of a covid-19, they just happen to have it. They would be in hospital regardless.

Its all well and good saying we have to think of the NHS but where have you been for the past decade pre covid-19?

Every Winter the NHS is pushed to its limits due to the Flu yet we never gave it a second thought yet now its so important that we have to have restrictions?

I keep hearing we have to learn toive with covid-19 yet I haven’t seen any evidence of that.

I’m saying this as somebody who is extremely vulnerable, we should stop with the lock downs and most of the restrictions.

People like to use people like myself as their reasons to lock down, well let me tell you, we are capable of making our own decisions on what is an acceptable level of risk for ourselves thankyou very much.

Ive had my 3 Primary Jabs, (Yes that is right, 3 Primary Jabs) and I will have my booster when it is due.

I received my letter from the NHS today which they have sent out to a certain section of society who are extremely vulnerable where they give you a PCR Home Test kick and if you are positive you will contacted within 24 hr so arrangements can be made to give you one of two new specialist medications to help fight the virus.

They have already informed my GP of this so if I don’t here anything within 24 hours I can go straight to my GP.

I do not expect or want anymore lock downs. I want people to live their lives, I want business to actually trade instead of being under the insane amount of pressure they have been under.

Ultimately people will die, there is nothing you can do stop this. You can’t stop everything because a small percentage refuse refuse to vaccinate and those who would most likely die of they get the flu because of their health condition.

As for those of us who are vulnerable, we lived with the risk before covid and will continue to live with risk long after.

Stop using us as excuse for you wanting lock down.

The huge mistake Boris made is not locking down or bringing on more restrictions, it is panicking, its his lack of leadership, its his lack of making quick and decisive decisions.

His panicking and waffling has caused more damage than Omicron.

As for Sage, well they have already admitted that they always use the worst case scenarios because that is what they have been briefed to by the Government.

You can trust anything Sage say as they have admitted they are nothing more than a mouth piece for the Government.

    This is utter ridiculous

  16. Oh good, I’ll just put this in the corner…

with all the other promises from the Tories…

    ***Wait…***

Why are all the other promises they made previously just loads of rotten herring?

  17. Anyone would think they just got a tanking in a by election and don’t want to lose more popularity by cancelling Christmas.

I should add I’m not for/against lockdown and happily go with what science says, but if it was any other time of year, and there hadn’t just been a disastrous by election for the Tories I think we might be in a LD

  18. Seems to me Boris and Co. have burned so much political capital, they’re petrified to make tough decisions during a critical time.

[The map of London has never looked worse](https://i.imgur.com/5qicbBv.png), but hey, apparently now is the time to mingle and party.

  19. Yeah only because if he did cancel Christmas no one would listen to him because he got caught last week breaking the very rules he set, mans a clown get him out.

  20. This is a political decision, not one for public safety. Obvious but worth remembering – the government (not just Boris) won’t lock down before the 25th out of fear of losing more face with the hardcore CON, and further angering anyone opposed to locking down.

Taking bets now for there to be a big Chrimbo Day leak – the audio of ‘let the bodies pile up in their thousands’ seems a good fit

  21. They don’t want any more embarassement when they inevitably throw a coke-fueled booze up on the taxpayer’s back?

    That’s nice of them
