  1. Life or Death situation

Better check the silly social media propaganda platform for instructions on how to fast charge my phone in the microwave

  2. It seems like a really bad way to deliver public announcements, especially given that you now need a twitter account to even read the message.

  3. The cell broadcast message feature found on most smartphones was first used in Germany. No registration is required for any social networks

  4. Why the hell would you use an app that requires an account to see these messages when you can make use of the SMS system like you should be doing anyway?

  5. The idiots leading the Royal Canadian Mounted Police discovered that during the Nova Scotia massacre of 2020.

  6. What made you think using Twitter for emergency communications was a good idea in the first place?

  7. Needing to be loged in and having limited tweets you can read can be the most idiotic rules you can give to social media platform like Twitter in year 2023.

Then lets not forget the blue badge that helped to different real “celebreties”/”known people” from random fakes, was made into business model and lost its purpose..

Also Musk actively mendling with what information is pushed and what is blocked, makes it North Korea level propaganda site…

  8. that’s true, but the fact that they were using it in the first place probably indicates a need (quick real-time updates that aren’t big enough to warrant a full emergency SMS/warning broadcast) that isn’t being met by the existing infrastructure.

Seems like it wouldn’t be that hard to build into the existing apps.

  9. Yeah a private profit driven company which operates a bot invested platform surely isn’t the right tool to help citizens during emergencies.

  10. Why can’t they use SMS’s which give the recipient a brief message and provide a website link to the National Weather/Emergency Response Agency, so that it gets to people who do not have smartphones and the website can provide the most updated information about emergency comms.
