Remember folks, doing anything that the ordinary folk want is “populist” and to be frowned upon.
It’s a completely fair response if you listen to the whole thing and perfectly in line with the terms of reference for Citizen’s Assemblies
https://citizensassembly.ie/assembly-on-drugs-use/terms-of-reference/
The Assembly shall:
…..
– submit a report and recommendation(s) on the matters before it to the Houses of the Oireachtas. On receipt, the Houses of the Oireachtas shall refer the report to a Committee of both Houses for consideration; this Committee will, in turn, bring its conclusions to the Houses of the Oireachtas for debate. Furthermore, the Government shall, on consideration of the report from the Citizens’ Assembly, provide in the Houses of the Oireachtas a response to each recommendation of the Assembly, setting out a timeframe for implementing those recommendations which it accepts
Leo the leek is a geebag tbh.
The only assumption we have is that leo will continue to do sweet fuck all regardless of what the public he is supposed to serve wants.
Not sure why I’d be surprised by this.
FG will be the last to change their tune, it’s a conservative party. Once the left wing parties have come out in favour of some decisive drug reform, then you’ll see FF and then FG will change their position, implement legislation and then hail themselves as glorious progressives.
Pretty much carbon copy of marriage and abortion referendums.
Never assume that our government will do the sensible thing.
This is a gay man who was against gay marriage until the pressure was so much that he could not oppose it.
I just don’t get why he gets voted back.
He should not worry about that. There was never any doubt.
I mean, yeah. The assumption that citizen assemblies automatically change things is just wrong. Irrespective of the topic at hand.
A Citizen’s Assembly is a way to have a public debate, and provide a structured output from that into the Oireachteas.
No Government is going to accept the situation where it is expected that whatever an Assembly comes out with will be turned into law.
Some of the rumours going around town are beginning to look a little more likely!
Hey public, you can have your say on important matters. Unless I disagree with your opinion that is, in which case.. get fucked.
The citizens assembly is an expensive way to blow smoke up the ass of the public who give up their time to be part of it.
FGs core vote is afraid of drugs not in favour of legalising some of them.
Ah yea, they only listen to the citizens assembly when it suits them. Most the time it’s a load of bs that doesn’t represent the opinion of the average Joe anyway
The CA & public consultation on hate speech was ignored… look where that is.
This is a nothing clip. He can’t pre-empt any findings and make any promises around a process that isn’t complete, an empty question gets an empty answer.
Yeah of course, we’re a representative democracy, not run my committees.
So they’ll leave the grenade for SF?
guys the citizens assembly does not get to tell the government what to do it get to have an opinion
Well, when they commissioned their own research on drug policy, they blatantly rejected the results. I don’t see why the democratic will of the people or expert opinion would be taken any more seriously this time. They don’t care.
