COVID-19: Government advisers recommend jab for vulnerable five to-11 year-olds | UK News

  1. Currently got COVID in our house. Son is 2. Unless there is some sort of resurgence, he had the chills for an hour and a mild cough for about 12 hours. Seems totally fine now. Obviously totally unvaccinated due to age.

Daughter is four, so waiting to see how that goes. We’re actually wondering whether she might have actually had it and we didn’t realise. But either way, friends with children that have had it generally reported… well, not much. So I can understand the recommendation – based on my anecdotal experience at least

  2. I’m fairly sure except for the vulnerable kids, it causes so little harm to this age group that it may be smaller risk than the vaccine. But for the society as a whole, of course keeping them unvaccinated presents much bigger risk, so I guess it’s a hard ethical question.

  3. Great news; our daughter has a rare metabolic condition and heavy colds see her in hospital on a drip at least once or twice a year. So hopefully this will help tick another one off the list (she has had extra jabs like chickenpox and stuff to try to keep her out of hospital) and mean we wont need to use up a bed when we inevitably get covid in the household.

  4. Great news. Vulnerable children who had to shield in 2020 before schools even closed just being plunged back into regular school was always a bizarre decision. Hopefully this roll out gives families peace of mind.

  5. Why have we not just made it up to parents whether to get their younger children vaccinated?

I have read of some proper lunatic parents who are always worried about their baby or toddler catching covid, even though their children are totally safe. I think it would make them a lot more relaxed and the risk of their child getting ill from the vaccine is basically zero so who cares?

  6. I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t been offered already to that age group with vulnerability? Hasn’t it been in line for them for a while?
