A Downing Street spokesperson insists that a “deal has not been agreed” on, and the UK will “continue to explore all options including a UK-based option, which is the Pioneer alternative”.^1
The spokesperson added that “we want to make sure that any deal whether it’s the Horizon or the UK alternative Pioneer is the one that produces the best value for UK science and research and also for taxpayers.”^1
Multiple sources in Brussels have denied the existence of a draft deal as previously described in media reports.^2
Yet he has no issue giving him and all his buddies pay rises and giving millions away in “government contracts.”
Oh *now* we’re worried about what Brexit costs, are we?
Why don’t you just wave away these concerns as “project fear”, Sunak?
Nah, fuck off. One day the draft is reported as done and the next everyone denies it.
The UK’s current plan is to cover all grants given by the EU yo UK institutions. That’s not cheaper. The only way to make things cheaper is if you want your unis going broke and simply stop funding them. Sign the fucking thing
The same man who wrote off £15billion in covid fraud his department handed out.
Why would this be a problem? What about the money we saved from not having to pay the eu anymore and leaving can’t we use that money to buy our way back in surely after years we saved up lots?
Research, ain’t that all those experts. They don’t know nuffink. It’ll be the spnning jenny all over again.
Sunak concerned about potential for Water companies epic failure to maintain their infrastructure and looking to change the news beat.
How much did his party selll water and energy company for? National wealth given to their buddies & they make fun of Russia for doing the same.
Maybe if we took some of that £350m that we’re giving to the NHS now and….oh, wait.
Or maybe every minister’s mate who got multi-million poihd contracts to supply PPE that wasn’t fit for purpose is made to pay it back.
Tories. They know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
The cost of doing something is totally irrelevant unless you also know the cost of not doing it.
For example:
Being in the EU cost the UK a net £137million a week in payments to be in the club.
However the cost in terms of loss of trade from the UK being outside the EU is £2,600million a week.
Everyday they find a new way to dislike them even more
Just say it’s free then when anybody proves otherwise say they hate Britain. That was the previous strategy anyway.
We should make all the Brexit fucks pay for it, they’re the reason we’re in this shitshow in the first place.
I’m a scientist directly affected by this, and I’m also ‘concerned’ that those in power have no idea what they’re causing with delaying this scheme endlessly. Scientists now go elsewhere increasingly, meaning ”competitor countries” (if you want to look at them that way) are gaining credit for work done by researchers, who originally learnt their craft doing PhDs in the UK system.
If we are associated, people like me could apply for one of these grants and bring fantastic ‘value for money’ to the UK through taxes and paying into the economy. But the outcome on UK association remains uncertain, making it a waste of everyone’s time. They say UK government will match all EU grants, but while there is uncertainty over our future (as there has been for years now), the chance of landing an EU one for the UK to match, has plummeted closer to zero. Even if the grant is perfect, reviewers can no longer in good faith tick an essential box which says “yes, awarding this researcher this grant for their science will benefit the EU.”
Idiot. Without co operation across borders science cannot progress. We literally now have a new cancer vaccine as a direct result of mass scientific co- operation during work on the covid vaccine.
Maybe he’s very confident he’ll never need anything produced by “science” or “experts”
It’s fine, we can just put some of the £350m a week we’ve been saving since leaving the EU towards this.
Perhaps his real concern is he and his friends can profit from such a deal?
He’s concerned because the position his government have put us in have *made it so we can’t afford it.*
We have become a middle power. Something we haven’t been since the middle ages. And it’s all the their fault…
We should never have fucking left in the first place. This fucking country FFS
If the UK pays x billion in, it should at least get x billion out. As we are no longer in the EU, we should not be a net contributer any more. Especially as the UK has zero input in any spending and will be absolutely bottom of the spending choices, given the EUs distataste for all things British.
The fuck does this twat know about the price of anything?
Does anyone know where the cheapest pitchforks are available?
I’m happy for everyone who voted Brexit to chip and pay for it… or take it from the £350 million NHS weekly saving
