I don’t know what they did but Lira started gaining value again? What’s going on? EURO down from 20.5 to 16.7.
I want to get off Mr. Erdogans Wild Ride
> “Don’t expect anything else from me,” he said in a televised speech on Sunday night. “As a Muslim, I will continue to do whatever the religious decrees require,” he added, in a reference to prohibitions in Islam on usury.
>The Directorate of Religious Affairs in Turkey (Turkish: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı, normally referred to simply as the Diyanet) is an official state institution established in 1924 by the orders of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk[2] under article 136 of the Constitution of Turkey[3] to carry out some of the administrative duties previously managed by the Shaykh al-Islām, before the abolition of the Ottoman Caliphate.[4]
>
>As specified by law, the duties of the Diyanet are “to administrate the affairs related to faith and worship of the religion of Islam”.[5] The Diyanet drafts a weekly sermon delivered at the nation’s 85,000 mosques and more than 2,000 mosques abroad that function under the directorate. It provides Quranic education for children and trains and employs all of Turkey’s imams, who are considered civil servants.[6]
>
>Starting from 2006, the Diyanet was fortified, by 2015 its budget had increased four-fold,[7][8] and staff doubled to nearly 150,000.[7] Its 2019 budget has been estimated at €1.7 billion ($1.87 billion), far exceeding that of most Turkish government ministries.[9] It has 1,000 branches across Turkey and offers educational, cultural, and charitable activities in 145 countries.[9] Diyanet TV was launched in 2012,[10] now broadcasting 24 hours a day.[7] It has expanded Quranic education to early ages and boarding schools – “enabling the full immersion of young children in a religious lifestyle”[10] – and now issues fatwa (Turkish: fetva) on demand.
I wager that if they look *really* hard, the Diyanet can figure out some way to interpret the Quran to permit not screwing up the lira. Like the other majority-Islamic countries that aren’t off demolishing their currencies.
The Prophet doesn’t like charging interest? Okay, fine. You can *gift* amounts of money, but restrict how much you are gifting. Pretty sure that the Prophet did *not* mandate that believers gift without limit. That’ll also limit inflation rates. Erdogan gets to trumpet his Islamic chops, and Turkey’s economy isn’t a dumpster fire. Everyone wins.
Allach be praised that Supreme Sultan has his imperial palace build with taxpayers money.
what the hell is going on, the lira shot up in value? The usd/try exchange rate went from 18,20 to 13,40 in about 7 hours? what the fuck?
Erdogan is doing what I do in Democracy 4 when I tank a country on purpose, just to see how high the flames can get.
Also, see flair.
Has Erdogan just gotten so bored that he’s seeing how far Turkey will go before getting rid of him?

If we take this at face value (which I wouldn’t):
