Short explanation:
A friend of mine is approaching the yearly renewal period of their rental agreement (first week of August). Will the contract automatically be renewed for a whole year if my friend doesn’t sign up for that? Does the landlord have legal right to claim a full year of rent in case my friend would like to leave before that? How do these kind of issues hold up in case of a legal confrontation?
Any help is appreciated
Bonus question: Can the rent be raised by 200€ (for renewal) if current rent is 950€?

I mean,did he signed such thing?
let me guess. Limassol?💀
Yes. Nothing special here. It’s called implied renewal of contract. It does not mean that all the year is due. The contract still applies and a month of notice is enough to leave.
10% is legal if it’s not considered abusive… Statutory tenant law does not apply here because the contract has not been terminated
Very poor regulation in Cyprus with these types of matters in the rental markets / tenancy agreements.
