>an employee who had been late on 91 out of 118 occasions at the time he decided to dismiss her.

>But the worker’s solicitor said his client was using alcohol as a “crutch” for an anxiety disorder while struggling to return to work after a period of sick leave

>Ms Foley said she had only been four minutes late to clock in on September 30, 2019, but the Irish Distillers’ solicitor, John Dunne, said she had been so “extremely hungover” that she was “unable to start work for some time”.

Ah here, lads. The WRC does a lot of good work, but this is a bit of a piss take.
> the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found that Irish Distillers had departed from its own disciplinary procedure and was “largely improvising” when it moved to sack her.
I think this is the critical part. They don’t seen to give a shit about details, just follow the correct procedure at all times
“Ms Foley had been “late 91 times out of 118””. Jesus fucking christ. An alcoholic who is past the point of being chronically late and was on a final written warning but because they didn’t go via HR, the absolute nightmare (I assume) to work with is given 35 grand. Absolutely mental.
Sounds like she doesn’t deserve a penny
She’ll only drink it anyway
Clickbait headline.
*The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found that Irish Distillers had departed from its own disciplinary procedure and was “largely improvising” when it moved to sack her.*
Had Irish Distillers followed its own procedures it wouldn’t be in this mess!
Presumably they were so hacked off they expedited the matter!
These cases always come up, the reason for the person being dismissed is completely irrelevant to this case, it’s just was the correct procedure followed by the company, nothing more. As evident by the drunk lifeguard sacked because they were asleep when a child almost drowned, think they got even more that this woman.
You’d want to have some fucken neck
A huge company like that not following its own procedures. What on earth were they thinking of? 🤨
I hope she puts that money aside because good luck finding any kind decent job in the future after making the national papers with this nonsense.
