Seems odd – why would you buy a smart speaker from Currys in the first place? It’ll virtually always be cheaper going direct to the source.
Also they don’t wear out like kitchen appliances can, I have a first generation echo/Alexa and it still sounds good so why would I replace it?
Interesting, seen projections that sales were supposed to be going up in Europe but yknow, inflation. They’re not seen as a necessity anyway.
Once everyone who wants a smart speaker has a smart speaker there’s not much of a compelling reason to keep buying new ones like your regular phone upgrades
Smart speakers don’t seem to have evolved released since they’ve come out, considering what AI is capable of now
I’d imagine it’s because the vast majority of people already have them, they’re cheap, loads of promotions have given them away for free and there is little reason to buy a new one.
If companies genuinely believed the initial boom even remotely reflected long term sales then that is incredibly poor on their part.
Expect most people who want one already have one.
Bought one for my mum years ago to help with her disabilities and haven’t seen any reason to upgrade it since.
Unless Amazon stop supporting it with software updates, I can’t imagine her getting a new one.
Personally have no interest in owning one, so can’t see myself buying one any time soon.
Just so it’s clear, Currys have picked smart speakers due to it being the biggest decline in sales. It’s not responsible for Curry’s overall performance.
That’s more due to falling disposable income and people moving away from luxury spending which contributes most to Currys profit.
What an odd story. Not sure why the decline of one line of products should constitute news but the reason is obvious: the market has been saturated. Everyone who has one (or more) has them and has zero reason to waste money on any more.
Isn’t that what happens when everyone already has something?
Run a mile from Currys – customer service if anything goes wrong is absolutely terrible.
1. You hardly buy more of them.
2. Google have effectively abandoned their smart home wing.
No noticeable difference in gen 1 Alexa to the latest version.
Why upgrade something that i use to set timers when cooking and check on the weather?
People have finally realised a that they are pointless! But the truth is, they always were!
Yea I’d prefer amazon, Google, government etc not have easy access to listen to my conversations
Well…
I have 4 already in my house.
At some point there comes a point where you just don’t need any more. 🙄
Once everyone has one, how many more did you think people were going to buy?
Crap business model!
thats funny, because I was thinking of getting a listening device installed in my home.
Why would anybody buy one? Companies seem desperate to give them away from my experience
Unlike CD players their are no moving parts to wear out or go wrong
As much as people with a vested interest keep telling us that everyone wants everything they own to be connected to the internet, I remain unconvinced.
Maybe a small percentage of people want their fridge to be able to automatically reorder their milk, but I doubt it’s more than a very small percentage.
Mine just became glorified music speakers in each room. I don’t get much use out of them other than that.
My shopping habits have definitely changed since lockdown. Realised it’s not worth spunking all Ur cash on shit u don’t need.
waiting for the day currys goes bankrupt, will be a day to celebrate
I think the issue is no one is buying it from curry’s 🫠
Of course they have, anyone who wanted one has got one, they don’t need replacing every couple years.
Since Amazon changed music to play your request, after almost all the million song’s available I left the platform, they won’t even play kid’s songs. Pathetic money grabbing tactic.
The thing is they don’t need replacing. You buy it and you keep it for years.
