Countdown Fans Defend Anne-Marie Imafidon Following Racist Backlash

  1. If you’ve reached the stage of your life where you’re threatening to boycott countdown because there’s a black woman on it then the only thing left for you is to walk outside, lie down on the grass and just let the earth reclaim you for compost.

  2. Imagine being so outraged that they hired a black woman who had two GCSE’s before she left Primary school, started a masters degree at 17 that you decide you no longer want to watch a show you’ve perhaps watched every day before. People are so weird.

  3. It’s 2021 – I hear many people are arguing it is time the Countdown maths co-host regenerates as a man. Unfortunately this should never happen as since the beginning of the series the character has always been cast as a female part as the series’ creator Marcel Stellman never intended the co-host be cast as a male.

  4. >”There is a whole list of people in this thread that are publicly stating they won’t watch a show anymore due to a black person being hired. Racists now feel so comfortable in the UK that they don’t even hide it anymore.”

I find it hard to believe this person has never encountered racist trolls on the internet before.

  5. > One Countdown viewer targeted a thread of toxic commenters who had threatened to boycott the show, writing: “There is a whole list of people in this thread that are publicly stating they won’t watch a show anymore due to a black person being hired. Racists now feel so comfortable in the UK that they don’t even hide it anymore.”

One point that this person rightly raises is the extent to which British racism has become much more open and honest over the past few years.

In the mid-2010s, racism was seen as pretty socially unacceptable and racists had to hide behind all sorts of “I’m not racist but…” statements. Now they’re a lot more comfortable saying that they won’t watch a TV show because a black person is in it.

  6. Would be interesting to know what number of these negative posts are simply bots to stir the pot.

I cant beleive it’s a large number “boycotting” the show.

The woman is looking lovely has a cv to match and will be a fresh face.

News articles are now Bot written.
Social posts/commentary are now Bot written.

I just think of Moira Stuart (that voice) and the length of her professional career and she’s still smashing it, along with many other stars that should be way passed any of this shite.

I hope everything will be done to make sure no one has any of this shit on their mind while filming countdown and they’re able to focus on having a fantastic time and a right good laugh.

  7. I saw someone say that this was a classic example of the woke BBC. That’s the level these racists are playing at, complaining about a show they obviously don’t watch because they don’t know which channel it’s on, just because a black person is on it. It’s disgusting.

  8. She speaks 6 languages, passed gcses at primary school, had 2 a levels by age 11, a mathematics degree at age 15 and an MSc in computer science and maths from Oxford by age 19. And she turned away from earning big money in the city to doing charity work encouraging young women into technical fields. An amazing woman, the perfect countdown mathematician

  9. It seems that viewers want wankbank material rather than qualified staff. They just happen to not find this person attractive for certain reasons.

Perhaps it is time to shake up the show and have a female host with a male mathematician. Guarantee they’ll complain in similar ways even if it is a white man doing the numbers, they just like staring at someone who’d never fuck them.

  10. She is super smart which is exactly what the show requires. What sort of Neanderthal would actually be offended by her intelligence and ethnicity?

  11. The UK being the UK, what’s new. This is the same country where people threw their toys out the pram over seeing a Black couple in a Sainsbury’s advert.

This country has been bad vibes for time.

  12. I’ll start watching it again now that Riley isn’t on there. Hope she decides to make the change permanent.

  13. what a bunch of knobheads. Who cares if the person is not white if they can do the job.

My only criticism would be that media is not diverse in its diversity if you can call it that, it seems for most of everything on TV/Media the default image of diversity is a black person, I would like them to mix it up and get people of different backgrounds on, or at least default to South Asian people a bit more considering they are by far the largest minority in the UK.

  14. I think that it’s 100% understandable for white supremacists to a) hate the sight of ANY person of colour with this kind of astonishing intellect, and b) hate that a person like Ms Imafidon is publicly seen on TV where she is able to display her talents for all to see.

Trying to maintain that they have superiority over *anyone at all* is extremely difficult for this type of person (and I know what I’m talking about: my small business was on the route of a rag-tag of various white nationalist regular marches, and I saw for myself that these guys really are the dregs).

To try to establish their *racial* superiority over someone so accomplished is laughable. Most of them would dream of scraping average intelligence.

  15. And yet some people complain that race is given too much airtime nowadays.

Well maybe, if certain groups first response wasn’t to racially abuse people *just for showing up* on shows and the like, we could stop hearing about race and the like so much? Anyone from any group can be racist, and it needs to stop. It’s not even about being proactive in combatting racism, at most – just stop caring about race. It shouldn’t matter if someone is black, Asian, white, or whatever. Who cares if there’s more black people on tv? Who cares about so and so? I don’t. I don’t think it’s bad, I don’t think it’s good, I don’t even notice: it’s not and shouldn’t be important.

  16. I have enjoyed her appearances so far. Fuss free, and just gets on with the job and doesn’t make it all about herself. A huge upgrade on the previous incumbent.

  17. This is manufactured outrage. Is there really a “racist backlash” or are there just a few sad trolls on Twitter? Writing apparently serious news articles about a few knobheads on the Internet is making their position look a lot more legitimate and widespread than it actually is.

  18. Bear with me here, but I think the complainers may have a point. She is clearly not qualified for the position, from what I have read she’s clearly nowhere near enough of a twat to be replacing Riley and to be working anywhere near Anne Robinson.

  19. As a black person ,no matter how professional or accomplished you are ,you will find people who question your competency based on your skin not qualifications or ability
