I’m sure Marty is sound and all, but we seem to be seeing the wholesale capture of our public broadcaster by the Motor Industry.

  1. In an age of Climate Breakdown this is extremely concerning.

  2. Cars have long been a big chunk of advertising revenue and they are very handy for association with high profile names. Big shiny picture filling objects that we lust after

  3. That over-priced crap car is far more impressive than the waste of money standing beside it.

  4. It seemed to me like hat Danial and Majellas road trip shows looked like a big ad for a car too.

  5. Always has been. And not just RTÉ. The car industry has outsize clout all across Irish media. The long running, obviously illegal, I swear it’s not sponsorship of a programme by a political lobbying group, AA Roadwatch saga is merely the tip of the iceberg of bribery by an industry which is balls deep in graft.

Transport related stories are particularly full of talking heads that are at best suffering a conflict of interest and are at worst undeclared political lobbyists. But Irish media is really poor at seeking declarations of interest when looking for quotes or talking heads.
