Desperate For Short-Range Air-Defenses, Ukraine Is Fitting 70-Year-Old Naval Turrets To Flatbed Trucks.

  1. Makes sense. Sounds decent for shooting down moped drones, and both WW2 naval turrets and flatbed trucks are relatively cheap.

The real lesson of course is that Ukraine needs more anti-air of all tiers. A dozenish people died to a terror attack in Lyiv, as far from the front lines as much of Europe, because they don’t have enough to cover everywhere.

  2. OMG, this is getting more like Mad Max Vs Frankenstein every day.

  3. Ukraine’s a big country and when Russia doesn’t care if they’re bombing apartment buildings rather than actual strategic military targets that’s a lot of terrain to cover. Also I suspect they’re tired of having all their shit shot down by the AA coverage over Kyiv.

  5. This is smart. No amount of weapons will ever be enough.

It reminds me of the Arab spring when the concept of “Technicals” were employed. They were comodity pickup trucks with soveit AA guns strapped to the back and used for Ground to Ground attack.
