Hello everyone!

My wife and I are currently planning to have a child, and we came across a new proposal that could potentially lower the upper limit for Elterngeld (parental benefit) to 150,000 euros per year. More info here:

[**https://www.thelocal.de/20230706/who-is-affected-by-germanys-proposal-to-reduce-elterngeld-eligibility**](https://www.thelocal.de/20230706/who-is-affected-by-germanys-proposal-to-reduce-elterngeld-eligibility)

We’re wondering if this means that if our combined gross income exceeds 150,000 euros, we would not be eligible to receive Elterngeld. Could you clarify this for us?

Thanks allot!

  1. Because you are to rich. Easy explanation you don’t need this extra money, if you earn together more than 150.000 € in a year. You can easily get a few thousands each month by yourself at your side, on a saving account.

I personal think, also the Kindergeld, could be Limit for under 150.000 € parents income, too.

This extra money is for normal people which would earn for example 50.000 € a year for example.
