Such a shame considering how popular it was and still is. Ford have scrapped it not because they want to push electrification – it’s been scrapped because they’re reinventing themselves as an American SUV brand to return to their US roots (at the expense of their European business). It just so happens their vehicles are going to be electric and is as good a reason as any. They also make more money in this segment, like any other car brand.
The New Explorer based on the VW ID platform is their attempt at entering the market based on luxury manufacturing but with a weird message of appealing to young drivers (how they will afford them no one knows).
Hopefully the ID.1 platform being developed by VW will see cars like the Polo and Fiesta return, as affordable small electric cars will always be needed, despite what customers and manufacturers want.
Was my first ever car. A Mk1, older than I was. Then had a mk5 as my second car. Shame everything’s a crossover nowadays!
Article doesn’t mention much other than Ford will start focusing more on EVs, will they be introducing another small family hatchback model? Feel it’s a shame that popular small car models are being discontinued while we see endless streams of giant SUVs and pickups being produced.
