I think Labour and the Lib Dems being able to come out openly in favour of rejoining the EU is something that would take at least 2 terms, if not 3. Even if the majority of Brexiteers died off or turned into “Bregret” voters they’d still have to find a good answer for concerns about free movement.
They could reverse so much. Basically everything from the past 5 years needs reversing 🫣
Not in first term. There is no way it gets reversed within next 5 years. I can imagine rejoin8ng being a thing in decade or so
Labour was never against brexit ironically and the Tory’s were never for it. The MPs not the supporters
Whatever happens, it surely has to be what is undeniably best for the country. If that means de-Brexiting (which would clearly be best for the country), then that’s what should happen. Surely nobody wants the country to fail right? Allegiance to an ideology is the type of dumb shit that Americans love.
Can’t keep blaming Brexit when We’ve had an incompetent government, Rejoining EU won’t solve anything, Need to sort immigration out too eu won’t help that,
I object to the headline, because taken as written, that would indicate that over 40% of voters are morons who think it can be ‘reversed’.
We can apply to rejoin, and should, but we can’t reverse our decision and essentially say to the EU “Look, just pretend it never happened, all right? Same deals as before?”
We got fucked over big time, and we can never go back to how it was, for better or worse.
But we should still rejoin, particularly given the evidence of what’s happened since leaving, and I think there are still a reasonable number of ‘transition phase’ policies in place on one side or the other, to lessen the final impact.
I’d be a lot more enthusiastic about labour if they actually would…
Can labour reverse the covid restrictions which continue to fuck virtually every country in the west?
But do those people believe that labour reversing Brexit (re-joining under standard T&C’s) is a good thing?
The closer we get to GE, the more concerned I get about the fact that Labour are just relying on “not being the conservatives” and the voter base will go to many other minor parties, resulting in a slim return for the Cons again.
So many reasons that people *could* use to not vote labour (not any thing I feel personally)
* Don’t want an expansion of ULEZ
* Disgusted that labour wont repeal the anti protest laws
* Not re-joining the EU. or concerned that labour will re-join the EU
* Not agreeing on what a woman actually is
* Private vs pubic ownership of utilities
* Party bending to passing fads (wokeness??) like kneeling for BLM and other things
* etc etc
Each of those is a vote for the Greens or Lib Dems and a move away from a Lab majority while the current cons play to their base as well as the various far right groups and sentiments.
They can’t literally reverse it, but they can rejoin the SM and enter a customs union a) to save the economy and b) restore the loss of the greatest rights in modern history – EU FoM
You can’t just undo Brexit, Jesus wept. All the morons who voted to leave, I hope feel truly ashamed.
How does one “reverse” brexit? We didn’t get a receipt for this stupid act of self harm, unfortunately.
While it’s probable the EU would invite the U.K. to rejoin it’s going to be a process. It’s far more likely the U.K. rejoins the single market and customs Union first. Essentially rejoining by stealth. However, it is likely down to the economy and the U.K. is really suffering right now far more than other EU countries and it is because of the B-word.
I think the EU would insist the U.K. would have to join as a new member and not on the old terms. This would mean the U.K. joins the Euro and we join Schengen and do not have the previous opt-outs. This will be a hard sell.
Data suggests if a referendum was held now Rejoin would win by 5-10% margin. This figure will likely only increase over the years.
I expect U.K. will have a referendum in about seven years time as the earliest date. Quite possibly later.
The demographics have changed and considerably favour people that want to be part of the EU.
Could we even rejoin if we wanted to though, given we’ll soon be officially made a member of the CPTPP?
Genuinely unsure, I’ve tried searching about it and can’t find an answer but I assume that because we applied to join after leaving the EU, the two must be mutually exclusive right?
The EU made it perfectly clear once we’re gone, we’re gone, and the cost of rejoining would be astronomical. This is a nothing burger.
Labour and Conservatives both suck from the same teets. Call me a conspiracy nut or whatever but who genuinely believes either party gives a single flying fuck about anyone but themselves?
Labour wouldn’t do that without a referendum.
If you believe the people still believe in Brexit, you have nothing to fear.
If you believe the people no longer believe in Brexit, why are you against it being reversed?
Over 40% of voters are fucking morons it seems. This is a nice bit of positivity though because the rate of brainlessness is a fair bit lower than I had assumed.
If they promise to reverse Brexit I’ll vote Labour instead of SNP for the first time in my life
Fucking deluded. They think it’s all a funny ruse and Starmer’s just pretending to be a Tory, when really he’s a Remainer Socialist hero we all dream of come to save the day. We just have to vote him in and he’ll reveal the brand plan.
They’re as delusional as QAnon.
Actually rejoining is very unlikely anytime soon, but doing things like staying part of science funding, striking better trade deals with the EU, sorting out the issues with checking goods at the border, etc. would be a genuine improvement and something that the Tories have become allergic too in an inane quest to be the Ultimate Brexiteer.
What makes anyone think that the EU would let us back in after the shitshow?
And even if they did it would be under far less favourable terms than we had at the time of exit.
They won’t do it during the first four and a half years but I would have thought they would attempt if elected again.
Shocking thing is this headline will be used against labour during the run up to the next election, there’s still a lot of people that think brexit was a good idea.
Madness
Starmer has stated again and again that he will not reverse Brexit. It’s about the only thing he’s nailed to the mast.
If you want back in the EU, there really isnt much options for voters
Didn’t Starmer categorically rule that out? Though admittedly whether that makes it more or less likely that he tries to re-join is another question.
