“So finally it’s all been found. The war on cannabis has been won..”

  1. Brilliant. Any minute now we’ll hear the news that cannabis has committed suicide in its bunker and this dreadful war can end.

  2. Death by a thousand cuts. So many people I know are now hooked on cocaine after being introduced to drugs by doing the weed. Nothing positive can come from it so fair play to the officers and of course little Robbie.

  3. You think Ming would keep away from all substance when his last binge gad him creeping on a politician

  4. Painful that we’ll be seeing tweets/articles of this type for at least another 5 years until the blatantly obvious decision to legalise, regulate and tax cannabis is made.

What kills me is how we always have to be a country that follows and not leads, everyone and their mothers know it’ll be legalised pretty much everywhere in the developed world over the next decade, the example set by Canada and parts of the US are showing all the benefits, but instead of being the trailblazer here, we’ll drag our feet on this for 5 years until the majority of the EU has already legalised and until the UK has done the same and then just copy them. And whatever cowboy Taoiseach we have in at that point (Leo, Michael or otherwise) will jump straight in on the bandwagon and say they’ve always loved “pot” and thought it should have been legalised years ago.

  5. This same old shit on top of the minimum pricing for alcohol to be introduced. Jesus why the fuck does our government seem so intent on making this the most miserable place to live that it can be. Fucking embarrassing.

  6. Ha the head on poor Robbie, it’s like he did the job he’s trained to do and then read the comments on here when he was expecting a rub behind the ears.

The same crowd who say “Take it out of the hands of criminal gangs” well he just did, it’s not remotely the same as some crustacean with a plant is his hot press for personal use.

  7. That’s great but everyone knows there is a bigger boat down the country with 3 times that amount unloading right now!

  8. The problem in Ireland is lots of people are more interested in what the next person is doing rather than living their own lives. The curtain twitching high horse brigade is still a force to be reckoned with and the covid pandemic has reinvigorated them. The demonisation of nightlife, the upcoming minimum alcohol pricing and the media/Gardaí new reefer madness campaign/seizures against Cannabis shows what we are up against and its quite grim to be honest. There has always been a particular breed of nanny stators who have pull and power here and think that they know best, they don’t believe in letting people do things that they don’t agree with. Cannabis is associated with working class people and the nanny stators think they are above the working class so they won’t budge from their positions, its like they are incapable of sharing the country with their fellow countrymen as if their fellow countrymen cant be trusted to make their own choices.

  9. Pros:

    Increased revenue for taxation

Better utilisation of the guards which should save money

Less arrests or pointless court cases which will save money

    Reduced gang power

Less people smoking tobacco and less mixing of cannabis with tobacco which will reduce hospitalisation and save money

More jobs in a new industry which will on turn increase government revenue

    Cons:

1 in a few thousand (according to outdated research) may have adverse psychological issues

Some driving offences from smoking a few days ago
The gardai can’t make these ridiculous post claiming 40 grand is worth hundreds of thousands

Gangs that were already selling hard drug will be forces to only sell hard drugs (better utilising resources)

A potential reduction in people drinking and smoking so there might be less money on tax there (yet it would save the HSE money which is why the tax on fags is there in the first place)

The big issue with cannabis is that people in their 40s and over think because its labelled as a drug, its up there with heroin and their mindset cannot be changed. Most of the negatives of legalisation and regulations will actually have a long term positive effect but with the government we have in place, I can’t see it changing for a long time. I used to smoke on a daily basis but completely gave it up yet I 100% support legalisation and regulation

  10. I see your authorities are using their time as wisely as ours in the US are. I just imagine someone being stabbed behind all these agents patting themselves on the bag for stealing some asshole’s weed. That’s right *stealing* some asshole’s weed.

  11. My friend used to work in Mountjoy prison and it really made up my mind on the drug war. If they can’t keep drugs out of what amounts to a fortified castle that is manned and monitored 24hrs, how can they expect to keep them out of the country?

  12. If they could just end this silly dither about cannabis I could take home the (now retired) pot-sniffer dog Robbie and train him for a real service gig – fetching my paraphernalia.

  13. **Garda Inflation Calculator**

    42 Kags = 1,481 ounces.

    €716,000 divided by 1,481 = €483.50 per ounce.

Real cost of weed = €300, give or take.

    €300 x 1,481 = €445,000

Today’s total Garda inflation added to street value = €271,000, or 37.84%
