As a American, I just don’t understand the whole heritage pride thing. Nobody cares about your heritage, visit and don’t act like this. Gods what a nightmare for those people.
Don’t know why it bothers people so much. They’re just living their life. Could be worse. A lot worse.
This obsession with American heritage on the internet is getting ridiculous. Any American I’ve met here in Ireland has been respectful and interested. Truth be told, a little boring but overall I think very welcome.

Question for Irish people: I fully support you all in not caring about people being of Irish descent if they visit Ireland. I think people make too much of their heritage. But, does it make any difference to real Irish people that I am a dual citizen of Ireland and the USA in caring at all about my association with Ireland?
What did he want to them to do? Roll out the red carpet and have a giant welcome home party?

Honestly if I were born in a country with such a large population but also so focused in places on culture I’d totally try adopt and be proud of my ancestors culture be it Irish or whatever else. Can’t blame them for being enthusiastic about disassociating from their shit hole of a nation

I’m always torn, because I think the contempt for Irish-Americans can be so overwhelming and mean-spirited at times. But then they’ll say the most outrageously cringy shite and it feels impossible to not be a little mean.
Even though some of the Americans are a bit funny I respect them. They have pride and interest in their bloodline. Pride that their ancestors came from the land I’m from. It’s beautiful in a sense. And the tourism is important etc.
