Exemptions if you eat wine and cheese at
Your desk!
A monumentally stupid decision that will force many people to choose between going to work and risking a fine worth almost a full days pay, or staying home and risk getting sacked.
[There seems to be some confusion with the dates though. The BBC just says from Monday, but according to Wales Online, this came in to effect yesterday on the 20th.](https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/people-wales-can-now-fined-22528904) Either way, a mate of mine who is a civil servant, has received zero guidance in what this means for them, what evidence they will receive in case they are stopped, and who will pay the £60 if they fined, despite them needing to be in work for at least a couple of days each week.
I have severe doubts this will be enforced, and if it is I would suggest that people should probably challenge it in court.
If you get stopped just ask the police officer why they’re not working from home…
Don’t they mean *employers* making staff come in against orders under threat of termination?
Ahh yes, fine the employees for something they have no control over unless they quit, the halfwits that propose this shit have never lived in the real world for a day, have they?
This is pretty ridiculous, particularly given that you can go to the pub. And what is a ‘reasonable excuse’? That kind of vague wording always makes bad law.
What the actual fuck, how are they putting this on employees? Dystopian news.
This is wrong. Fine the employer not the employee.
I can kind of see the point of this but also appreciate where it might be difficult for others.
During the highest restrictions it was repeatedly said by Welsh Gov and our own company that you MUST not come into work unless there was no possible alternative. Some staff frequently came in and sat at their desks all day (we are fully setup to WFH for these tasks) despite protests from others that had to be there that they were unnecessarily increasing our risk. But there seemed to be an idea that it looked good them coming in.
