So… I was in Hämeenlinna military museum this week and the Nazi medals and memorabilia were on open display in the museum. Also, when I was coming back in the VR train, there was a swastika grafitti next to the window of train. Anything to do with a current political atmosphere and the far right in new Finnish goverment?

  1. Nazi medals? Or Finnish medals that just happen to have a swastika, which is a considerable amount of them. Those are historic items, nothing to do with the government lol. Graffiti? That’s just some idiot. Also nothing to do with the government. Make a nice cup of Juhla Mokka and have a peaceful weekend to calm down…

Edit after pics were added: the medal is indeed German, given to a Finnish translator who worked at a field hospital. The graffiti is a real work of art. Love it. Original message still applies – calm down and have a cup of coffee to enjoy the weekend.

  2. Context matters. Was the museum exhibit glorifying nazism? I highly doubt it. Displaying historical items, especially controversial ones, is important when traching history.
Would you find it more appropriate to hide away all the Nazi objects and pretend that never happened?

  3. Yep, when PS got into government they ordered all museums to display only nazi art from now on and ordered all graffiti artists to only make right wing tags from now on.
